How Far Can the Toilet Position Be Moved

Admin October 01, 2026

The distance that a toilet (马桶) position can be moved varies depending on the specific situation, ranging from as short as a few centimeters to as long as over 2 meters. However, different distances correspond to different construction methods and risks.

1. Short-distance relocation (5 - 15 centimeters)
Ordinary relocation usually moves the toilet up to 15 centimeters at most. A flat PVC toilet position shifter can be used to complete this task, and it is most suitable for moving the toilet 5 to 10 centimeters. If the relocation is within 50mm, a relocation flange can be used directly. If the relocation is between 50mm and 150mm, a pipe slope must be created, with a slope of 2% required for every 10mm of relocation to ensure smooth drainage. For relocations within 10 to 15 centimeters, a toilet position shifter can handle the job, but a slope must be left during installation, with the toilet raised at least 5 centimeters per meter to prevent sewage backflow.

2. Medium-distance relocation (15 centimeters - 1 meter)
When the relocation distance is between 15 centimeters and 1 meter, using a toilet position shifter alone is not enough, and additional measures are required. One method is to cut grooves in the floor to make space for pipe laying. Another method is to raise the floor by 15 to 20 centimeters to create a sufficient slope. However, the longer the distance, the greater the risk. When the distance exceeds 50 centimeters, air pressure instability is likely to occur, leading to poor drainage or odor backflow.

3. Long-distance relocation (over 1 meter)
For long-distance relocations over 1 meter, if the bathroom has a sunken structure, the pipes can be directly modified in the sunken box, allowing for a relocation distance of over 2 meters. If the bathroom is not sunken, it is necessary to discuss with the neighbors downstairs about drilling holes in their ceiling to connect the pipes, or switching to a wall-mounted toilet to hide the drainpipe in the wall. However, these methods are costly, with each one costing over ten thousand yuan, and require professional workers for construction. Otherwise, problems such as water leakage and blockage are likely to occur.

Summary: The distance that a toilet position can be moved is affected by various factors, including bathroom structure, relocation method, and construction difficulty. Short-distance relocation is relatively simple, medium-distance relocation requires careful handling of slope and floor height, and long-distance relocation requires consideration of cost and professional construction.
