How Does a Container House Drain Water

Admin September 15, 2026

The drainage of water in container houses is mainly achieved through reasonable drainage system design, including ground elevation treatment, drainage ditch setting, top canopy design, and the application of sewage treatment systems.

  1. Ground Elevation and Drainage Ditches
When installing a container house, the ground elevation should be higher than the surrounding environment to prevent rainwater from flowing back. Drainage ditches should be excavated around the container to guide rainwater to drain quickly and avoid water seeping into the interior of the container. This design is particularly suitable for areas with long rainy seasons and can effectively reduce the risk of the container getting damp.

  2. Top Drainage Design
The top of container houses usually adopts a "gable" canopy or slope design, using gravity to make rainwater naturally flow to both sides and be discharged collectively through water chutes or drainage pipes. Some customized container houses also apply waterproof glue or install waterproof layers on the top to further enhance leak-proof performance and extend service life.

  3. Sewage Treatment System
For the discharge of domestic sewage, container houses can be connected to the municipal sewage pipe network or achieve purification and recycling through built-in sewage treatment equipment. For example, integrated container-type sewage treatment equipment can treat domestic sewage. After processes such as grid filtration, anoxic/aerobic biodegradation, MBR membrane filtration, and disinfection, the effluent can meet reuse standards and be used for non-potable water scenarios such as toilet flushing and irrigation.

  4. Coordination of Water Supply and Drainage
The water supply system of container houses can be solved through municipal water supply or the addition of water tanks, while the drainage system needs to be designed in coordination with the water supply system. For example, drainage pipes should be pre-buried in areas such as kitchens and bathrooms to ensure the smooth discharge of sewage. At the same time, the water consumption can be regulated through water tanks to avoid blockage of the drainage system due to insufficient water supply.

  5. Sealing and Waterproofing Techniques
The sealing performance of container houses directly affects the drainage effect. Strict manufacturing processes can ensure that there are no leaks at the joints of the container body. Applying waterproof glue on the roof and using waterproof rock wool and other materials for the walls can further improve the moisture-proof performance and reduce the generation of internal condensed water.
