How About the Thermal Insulation of Container Houses
The thermal insulation effect of container houses depends on material selection and renovation techniques. While ordinary container houses have poor thermal insulation performance, professional renovation can significantly improve it to meet daily living needs.

The thermal insulation performance of ordinary container houses is relatively poor. Their bodies are usually made of single-layer steel plates with high thermal conductivity. In summer, they quickly absorb external heat, causing the indoor temperature to rise rapidly; in winter, they dissipate heat quickly, making it difficult to maintain indoor temperature. Without renovation, the temperature fluctuation range inside the container can reach 80% of the outdoor temperature difference, making it difficult to meet comfortable living requirements.
Professional renovation can effectively improve the thermal insulation performance of container houses. Common methods include the following:
- Lining method: Use polyurethane foam material for lining treatment, which can increase the thermal insulation coefficient by 300%. This renovation method is suitable for cold regions and can effectively block the loss of indoor heat to the outside, keeping the interior warm.
- External hanging method: Use rock wool boards for external hanging, which can increase the thermal insulation coefficient by 250%. This method is suitable for rainy regions. Rock wool boards not only have good thermal insulation performance but also possess certain waterproof and fireproof properties, enhancing the overall safety and comfort of the house.
- Sandwich panel method: Use XPS extruded polystyrene boards to make sandwich panels, which can increase the thermal insulation coefficient by 400%. This method is suitable for environments with extreme temperature differences. XPS extruded polystyrene boards have a closed-cell honeycomb structure that effectively prevents heat conduction, providing significant thermal insulation effects.
During renovation, attention should also be paid to key control points: Seams should be sealed with EPDM sealing tape to prevent the generation of thermal bridge effects and avoid heat loss through seams; doors and windows should be upgraded to broken-bridge aluminum hollow glass with a heat transfer coefficient of ≤2.5W/(㎡·K), effectively reducing heat transfer; at the same time, heat recovery fresh air equipment should be used, with a heat exchange efficiency of >70%, ensuring fresh indoor air while reducing energy loss. After professional renovation, container houses can maintain an indoor temperature of 18 - 22℃ when the outdoor temperature is -10℃ in winter, and the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors is about 8 - 12℃ in summer, providing a relatively comfortable living environment.
In addition, optimizing the design of windows and doors, such as using double-layer or triple-layer hollow glass, adding sealing strips, and adding thermal insulation layers, such as external thermal insulation layers or internal thermal insulation boards, can further improve the thermal insulation performance of container houses.
