Mobile Toilet Position During House Renovation

Admin September 29, 2026

It is feasible to move the toilet position during house renovation, but appropriate methods should be selected according to specific circumstances and relevant precautions should be taken.

Short-distance relocation (10 - 20 centimeters): Using a toilet offset flange is relatively safe, with a small amount of modification and low cost. However, this method may affect the flushing effect and increase the risk of blockage. During construction, a slope of 1% - 3% should be reserved, and the relocation distance should preferably not exceed 50 centimeters. For every ten centimeters of relocation, at least half a centimeter of slope should be reserved for the pipeline. If an offset flange of more than ten centimeters is used, a straight-flush toilet should be purchased to reduce the possibility of blockage.

Relocation over 20 centimeters: The floor needs to be raised by 12 centimeters to increase the pipeline slope and ensure smooth drainage.

Different drainage methods:

  • Same-floor drainage (sunken bathroom, where the bathroom floor is about 40 cm lower than the floor level, and the drainage pipes are in one's own home): It is relatively convenient to make modifications, and one can choose to directly lengthen or shorten the pipes for relocation.
  • Inter-floor drainage (the drainage pipes pass through the floor slab for drainage): If an offset flange is used, since the floor slab cannot be dug, the floor slab needs to be raised. To prevent blockage, the relocation distance is not recommended to exceed 2 meters, and it is best to create a drainage slope.

Other relocation methods:

  • Changing from floor drainage to wall drainage: Connect the toilet directly to the sewage riser. The toilet can only be moved to the adjacent wall of the sewage riser and not to the opposite wall. After the modification, the toilet is less likely to be blocked, and it is suitable for both same-floor and inter-floor drainage. However, changing to wall drainage requires building a false wall, and during renovation, it can be combined with a niche to create storage space.
  • Negotiating with the downstairs neighbor: Drill holes in the floor slab to rearrange the toilet pipes downstairs, but 99% of the downstairs neighbors may not agree.

Precautions after relocation: The national standard slope of 0.02 must be ensured to guarantee smooth drainage. At the same time, waterproofing should be done well to prevent leakage problems. Moreover, professional construction is required to ensure construction quality and safety.
