Hongkou District has implemented renovation and improvement measures as well as emergency support actions for mobile house toilets.
Renovation and Improvement of Public Sanitation Toilets
Hongkou District has recently completed the renovation of eight public sanitation toilets, including the Yidishui Toilet located at No. 588 Dongdaming Road in the North Bund Riverside Green Space. This renovation adheres to the design concept of 'one toilet, one scenic view,' focusing not only on optimizing the appearance to harmonize with the surrounding environment and create a unique scenic spot but also on a comprehensive upgrade of internal facilities. A third toilet has been added to provide a more private and convenient restroom space for special groups such as mothers with infants and people with disabilities. Additionally, various 'high-tech' devices have been installed, such as touch-controlled automatic door systems to facilitate entry and exit, reduce contact, and enhance hygiene, and integrated wash-and-dry handwashing facilities to allow users to quickly dry their hands after washing, improving the overall user experience. Furthermore, a series of measures have been taken in terms of barrier-free facilities and age-friendly renovations, such as installing barrier-free access ramps and handrails, to facilitate use by the elderly and those with mobility impairments, fully reflecting a human-centered design approach.
Emergency Support During the COVID-19 Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the environmental sanitation management department in Hongkou District took proactive actions to coordinate emergency support and daily maintenance for mobile toilets and other facilities. To meet temporary needs in different areas, four standalone mobile toilets were installed on Xibaoxing Road in Guangzhong Subdistrict and two on Guangyue Road at supply points, effectively addressing restroom challenges in areas with concentrated populations. Moreover, to support the construction of the Guangzhong Road Fangcang Hospital, eight mobile shower units and one mobile toilet were installed, providing essential living facilities for staff and patients inside the hospital, ensuring the normal operation of the hospital and meeting the daily living needs of personnel. These measures fully demonstrate Hongkou District's emphasis on and capability in ensuring the infrastructure support for mobile house toilets during emergencies.
