Creative Mobile Toilets in Hongkou District

Admin October 11, 2026

The creative mobile toilets in Hongkou District, represented by the "Drop of Water Toilet" and the "Zhapu Road Toilet," showcase the integration of functionality and aesthetics, becoming a model for the upgrading of urban public facilities.

Drop of Water Toilet: Harmonious Coexistence of Technology and Nature

Located at No. 588 Dongdaming Road (or No. 588 Dongchangzhi Road), this toilet draws inspiration from a "water droplet" in its design. The blue and white exterior walls, along with the "rippling" effect of the metal toilet doors, echo the natural landscape along the riverside. Inside, an ocean-themed style is adopted, creating a visual unity with the environment. In terms of functional design, the third toilet is equipped with facilities such as high and low washbasins, baby care stations, and children's toilets to meet the needs of all age groups. At the technological level, multiple innovations have been introduced: touch-controlled automatic doors enable contactless passage, reducing the risk of cross-infection; integrated wash-and-dry handwashing facilities complete the entire process of handwashing and drying through sensor operation, saving space and being hygienic and efficient; and outdoor smart displays monitor the usage time of toilet stalls in real-time, facilitating prompt responses from cleaning staff to abnormal situations and enhancing safety. This toilet was awarded the title of "Most Beautiful Toilet" in 2025 for its innovative design and comprehensive functionality.

Zhapu Road Toilet: Combination of Historical Context and Practical Functionality

The Zhapu Road Toilet, located opposite No. 258 Wujin Road, is adjacent to cultural landmarks such as the Memorial Hall of the Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Its red-brick exterior walls are consistent with the style of the surrounding historical building complex, becoming an organic extension of the streetscape. The toilet is open 24 hours a day to meet the needs of nighttime travel. The barrier-free toilet is equipped with facilities suitable for the elderly and children, such as high and low washbasins and children's toilets. Barrier-free ramps and handrails cover the entire route, and emergency alarm devices are installed in each toilet stall to ensure the safety of special groups. This toilet was selected as a "Characteristic Toilet" in 2025 for its humanistic care and functional suitability.

Universal Achievements of Toilet Upgrades in Hongkou District

In addition to the two typical cases mentioned above, Hongkou District has completed the upgrading and renovation of eight sanitation toilets this year, all adhering to the concept of "one toilet, one landscape" and designed in combination with the characteristics of the surrounding environment, such as riverside green spaces and historical districts, making the toilets urban landmarks that combine practicality and观赏性 (aesthetic appeal, here translated as 'visual appeal' for better English flow: "visual appeal"). The renovations focus on the needs of aging-friendly, child-friendly, and barrier-free designs, improving management efficiency through intelligent equipment and promoting the transformation of public facilities from "meeting basic needs" to "enhancing the quality of life."
