Is a Mobile Toilet Good for Homestays?

Admin September 27, 2026

There are both advantages and disadvantages to using mobile toilets in homestays, and whether they are good depends on the actual situation.

Advantages

  • Flexibility and Convenience: Mobile toilets have a lightweight structure, making them easy to move and dismantle. During homestay operations, if situations such as demolition or road construction arise, they can be easily relocated to a suitable position without affecting the normal operation or renovation of the homestay due to their fixed nature. Moreover, they occupy a small area, saving the limited space of the homestay, especially suitable for homestays with relatively compact spaces.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: The cost is relatively low, offering higher cost-performance. With a short construction period, they are suitable for temporary or low-traffic areas and can be reused, resulting in lower long-term operating costs compared to traditional toilets. For some homestays with limited budgets or small-scale operations, they are a more economical choice.
  • Environmental Protection and Hygiene: Most mobile toilets adopt technologies such as waterless packaging and microbial degradation, reducing wastewater and land occupation. Some models are equipped with solar power supply, reducing energy dependence. They are also equipped with odor-proof and ultraviolet sterilization facilities, effectively ensuring hygiene standards and providing relatively clean and hygienic toilet environments for homestay guests.
  • Aesthetic Appeal and Intelligence: They have a stylish and attractive appearance, more in line with modern aesthetics compared to traditional toilets, and can enhance the overall image of the homestay. Some models are equipped with intelligent control systems, enabling remote monitoring and maintenance, facilitating homestay managers to promptly understand the usage of the toilets and carry out maintenance and management.

Disadvantages

  • Poor Stability: They are not tightly connected to the ground, making them prone to shaking or tipping over. The relatively small space is not conducive to personal hygiene cleaning, posing greater difficulties for obese or lower-limb-disabled individuals.
  • Hygiene Risks: With a small capacity,不及时 (not cleaned in a timely manner) cleaning can lead to odor and bacterial issues. Usually, manual cleaning methods are used, and if not cleaned promptly, not only will hygiene problems arise, but there will also be epidemic risks. Water-related facilities that are idle or left unused for a long time may experience technical issues such as pipe rupture and water leakage.
  • Privacy Concerns: The small space does not provide sufficient privacy, making users vulnerable to being observed. Cleaning work carried out at any time may bring the user into contact with the cleaner, causing psychological distress to both parties.
  • High Costs: There are significant investments in terms of labor costs, cleaning costs, and transportation costs for the maintenance party, and repair costs are also relatively high. Independent supply systems for sewage, water supply, and electricity need to be designed between different components, making maintenance difficult. Some that use advanced biotechnology or solar power supply have high maintenance costs and technical requirements, and professional personnel may be needed for repairs in case of malfunctions.
