Homestay Activity House - Container
Container houses have innovative applications in the homestay sector and can serve as a unique form of homestay architecture, offering advantages such as environmental friendliness, flexibility, and low cost, but there are also some issues that require attention.

Innovative Application Forms of Container Houses in the Homestay Sector
- Stacked Container Homestay: There is a homestay built by assembling three containers. It uses two standard containers stacked vertically, with one side cantilevered out. Beneath it lies a customized widened container serving as the main body of the first floor. This design not only incorporates a staircase leading to the second floor but is also filled with large observation windows. The 138-square-meter indoor living area is complemented by an equally sized outdoor space. The flat roof is transformed into a terrace, and the area beneath the cantilevered container forms a shaded corridor, providing tourists with a unique living experience and leisure space.
- Container Triangular House Homestay: With an interior area of 204.39 square meters, the house has a spacious interior. Designers from Xinyi Jichuang use environmentally friendly and non-toxic clay to paint the walls. From customized concrete countertops to brass hardware, wool carpets, and wooden lamps, natural materials are used as much as possible. The entire house features concrete radiant flooring, and large windows around the perimeter allow ample natural light to enter, creating a comfortable, environmentally friendly, and creative living environment.
Advantages of Using Container Houses for Homestays
- Environmental Friendliness: Compared to traditional buildings, the renovation and construction of container houses can reduce damage to the environment and waste of resources, aligning with the current concept of green environmental protection.
- Flexibility: They can be flexibly assembled and renovated according to different terrains and needs, enabling the creation of various unique homestay designs and spatial layouts to meet the diverse needs of tourists.
- Low Cost: Compared to traditional buildings, container houses have lower raw material costs, are easy to construct, and have short construction periods, which can reduce the construction costs of homestays.
Issues to Consider When Using Container Houses for Homestays
The 2026 Nagoya Asian Games in Japan used container houses to build the Athletes' Village, but issues such as budget overruns, room space, and bed sizes emerged, leading to feedback from some athletes. This serves as a reminder that when using container houses for homestays, it is essential to plan the budget reasonably and fully consider whether the room space and the sizes of internal facilities meet the needs of tourists to avoid affecting their living experience due to these issues.
