Homemade Outdoor Portable Toilet

Admin September 22, 2026

Homemade outdoor portable toilets can be realized in multiple ways, commonly using materials such as water storage buckets or tanks. Below are specific plans:

Plan 1: Portable Toilet Made from a Water Storage Bucket

  1. Basic Structure Construction: Select a household water storage bucket and use an angle grinder to split it vertically in half. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board to ensure mobility. Increase the height around the bucket body with wooden strips and self-tapping screws to form a frame structure.
  2. Wall and Roof Installation: Cut an entrance on the side of the water storage bucket, install sponge strips to form a door frame, and embed plastic soft boards as raised walls to enhance sealing. Invert the upper half of the split water storage bucket onto the top of the wooden strips to form a roof, ensuring a secure connection between the roof and the walls.
  3. Internal Device Configuration:
    • Drainage System: Drill a hole at the bottom of the bucket to install a drain pipe, forming a floor drain; drill holes on the side and bottom of the plastic bucket to connect direct fittings, and place a spare plastic bucket as a small water storage device to collect wastewater.
    • Bathing Function: Make a simple shower heater with a water pipe and connect it to the water storage device to provide hot water supply.
    • Toilet System: Install a toilet and a water tank, fix them with glass glue to prevent leakage; connect the drain pipe to a sewage bucket to ensure centralized treatment of excrement.
    • Handwashing Facility: Connect a water pipe at the tee joint of the outlet pipe and extend it to the entrance as the inlet pipe for a handwashing basin, achieving water resource recycling.

Plan 2: Portable Toilet Combining a Water Storage Tank and a Pallet

  1. Mobile Chassis Construction: Take out a plastic pallet as the base, and fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of the pallet to ensure a stable overall structure and flexible movement.
  2. Water Storage Tank Adaptation: Adjust the structure of the pallet according to the size of the water storage tank, add support frames if necessary, and fix the water storage tank on the pallet to form an integrated design for water storage and mobility.

Plan 3: Solar-Powered Mobile Toilet (Upgraded Version of the Water Storage Bucket) On the basis of the water storage bucket modification, integrate solar panels to supply power to internal lighting, shower heaters, and other devices, achieving energy self-sufficiency. It is necessary to configure a storage battery to store electrical energy and optimize the wiring layout to ensure electrical safety.

Precautions:

  • Wear protective equipment (such as goggles and gloves) during the production process to avoid risks from operating tools like angle grinders.
  • Seal the connection between the drain pipe and the sewage bucket to prevent odor leakage.
  • Regularly check the battery status of the solar system to ensure normal operation in rainy weather.
