Homemade Mobile Toilet

Admin September 24, 2026

A homemade mobile toilet can be realized through structures such as water storage buckets or tanks combined with pallets, meeting the core requirements of overall mobility and toilet service functionality. Here are the specific implementation methods and key points:

1. Basic Structure Selection
The water storage bucket or tank is the core container and must be sealed to prevent sewage leakage. For water storage buckets, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material is recommended, with a suggested capacity of 100-200 liters, which can meet single-use needs and is easy to transport. For water storage tanks, larger capacities (such as 300-500 liters) can be chosen, but they need to be paired with a pallet structure to distribute the weight. The pallet should be made of waterproof material (such as PVC board or anti-corrosion wood), with dimensions customized according to the size of the container to ensure stable placement.

2. Mobility Design
Swivel casters need to be installed at the bottom of the pallet. It is recommended to choose rubber wheels with a diameter of 10-15 centimeters, with a load-bearing capacity exceeding the weight of the container when full (e.g., 200 liters of water weighs about 200 kilograms). The four swivel casters should be evenly distributed, with at least two having braking functions to prevent sliding during use. If using a water storage bucket, handles or straps can be directly installed on both sides of the bucket for short-distance transportation; the water storage tank needs to be moved as a whole via the pallet.

3. Toilet Function Implementation

  • Excrement Collection: For a simple squat-type toilet, a hole can be made in the center of the pallet, and a sealed cover matching the mouth of the water storage bucket/tank can be installed, allowing excrement to fall directly into the container. An appropriate amount of biodegradable agent or disinfectant should be added to the container in advance to reduce odors.
  • Flush System (Optional): If a flush function is required, a small water pump (such as a 12V DC pump) can be installed on the top of the water storage bucket, connected to the toilet via a hose. The water pump needs to be equipped with a battery or solar power supply device to ensure outdoor use. A separate small-capacity water tank can be set up for flushing water to avoid mixing with sewage.
  • Sealing and Ventilation: The container cover should adopt a threaded seal or snap-fit design to prevent sewage from splashing out. A small hole can be opened at the top and a one-way exhaust valve installed to balance internal and external air pressure while preventing odor backflow.

4. Safety and Hygiene

  • The container needs to be cleaned regularly (recommended every 3-5 days). Protective gloves should be worn during cleaning to avoid direct contact with sewage.
  • Anti-slip strips should be installed on the edges of the pallet to prevent users from slipping.
  • If used in public places, usage instructions and hygiene tips should be posted on the outside, and disinfectant sprays or wet wipes should be provided for users to clean themselves.

5. Applicable Scenarios
Such mobile toilets are suitable for temporary events (such as outdoor music festivals, construction sites), natural disaster emergencies, or remote areas without fixed toilets. For long-term use, it is recommended to choose finished mobile toilets, which have a more stable structure and more complete functions.
