Homemade Mobile Outdoor Toilet

Admin September 22, 2026

A homemade mobile outdoor toilet can be constructed using two main methods: utilizing a water storage barrel or a water storage tank combined with a pallet. The specific steps are as follows:

Construction Using a Water Storage Barrel

  1. Basic Structure Setup
Use an angle grinder to split the water storage barrel vertically in half. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board to ensure mobility. Add height supports around the barrel using wooden strips and self-tapping screws, and cut an opening on the side for subsequent wall installation.

  2. Wall and Roof Installation
Install sponge strips along the edge of the opening to form a door frame, and embed plastic soft boards as wall materials for a lightweight and waterproof solution. Invert the upper half of the barrel to serve as the roof, securing it to the support strips with screws to create an enclosed space.

  3. Drainage and Water Storage System
Drill a hole at the bottom of the barrel to install a drain pipe connected to an external sewage tank. Drill another hole on the side to install a direct connector, and attach a plastic bucket as a water storage device for collecting wastewater. If a flushing function is required, install a simple water tank modified from a water pipe, using gravity or a manual pump for flushing.

  4. Additional Functional Facilities
Install facilities such as a bathroom heater (which can be replaced with a heating lamp) and a toilet (which can be a portable option or a homemade simple seat) according to needs. The toilet drain pipe must be directly connected to the sewage tank to ensure airtightness and prevent odor leakage.

Construction Using a Water Storage Tank and Pallet

  1. Mobile Pallet Preparation
Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of a pallet, and place the water storage tank in the center of the pallet to ensure stability. Choose a corrosion-resistant and well-sealed material for the tank (such as plastic or metal).

  2. Tank Modification and Stacking
Use an angle grinder to cut along the marked line at the top of the tank, removing the top to create an open tank. Invert another open-top tank and stack it on the first tank, securing the outer frame with self-tapping screws to form a double-layer structure.

  3. Opening and Drainage Design
Cut rectangular openings on the outer frame and side of the tank as doorways, and drill a hole in the interior floor to install a drainage elbow connected to an external sewage tank. If a handwashing function is required, install a faucet and a sink on the side, with wastewater flowing into the water storage device through a drain pipe.

  4. Facility Installation and Fixing
Place the toilet and secure it with glue to prevent displacement during movement. Install a showerhead (which can be a portable option) and a simple storage rack to enhance practicality. Finally, fix a wooden board as a door and install a door handle to ensure privacy.

Precautions: Wear protective gear (such as gloves and goggles) during the construction process to avoid risks associated with angle grinder operation. Seal all connections to prevent odor diffusion. Regularly clean the sewage tank to maintain hygiene. Adjust material specifications (such as the capacity of the water storage barrel and the load-bearing capacity of the universal wheels) according to actual needs to ensure a stable structure and ease of movement.
