Mobile Toilets During High-Speed Traffic Jams

Admin September 28, 2026

The use of mobile toilets during high-speed traffic jams should be considered on a case-by-case basis. Portable devices can serve as emergency solutions, while public mobile toilets pose safety risks.

Portable Mobile Toilet Devices Can Meet Emergency Needs

When stuck in a high-speed traffic jam and unable to reach a service area in time, a portable folding toilet is a practical choice. It is compact when folded, taking up little space, and can be used immediately after unfolding. It is simple to operate and suitable for family self-driving scenarios. Additionally, portable urinals, adult diapers, disposable urine bags, and other portable tools can also assist in addressing toilet needs. These devices are easy to carry and can meet basic physiological needs in emergencies, providing convenience for drivers and passengers. For example, when the traffic jam lasts a long time and the next service area is far away, using these portable tools can prevent physical discomfort caused by holding urine.

Public Mobile Toilets Pose Safety Risks

The incident that occurred in Hebei on May 11, 2025, fully exposed the many problems with public mobile toilets. From a management perspective, the cleaning vehicle driver started the vehicle without checking whether there was anyone inside the toilet as required, reflecting serious deficiencies in facility management and personnel operation procedures by the relevant enterprise. The driver lacked safety awareness and training in standard operations, and the enterprise had not established effective supervision and inspection mechanisms, leading to such dangerous incidents.

From the design aspect of mobile toilets, there are obvious flaws. The excellent sound insulation makes it difficult for occupants inside to notice the movement of the external vehicle, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Moreover, mobile toilets are not equipped with alarm devices for emergencies, internal emergency switches, or automatic unlocking functions. In situations like being towed by a vehicle, occupants inside cannot send distress signals to the outside world in a timely manner or open the toilet door from the inside to escape danger, seriously threatening the lives and safety of users. Therefore, when using public mobile toilets, one must exercise extreme caution and avoid using them in unsafe situations such as when the vehicle is in motion.
