Portable Toilets for High-Speed Self-Driving

Admin September 23, 2026

When driving on highways, the selection and use of portable toilets require comprehensive consideration of product types, service area facilities, and emergency plans.

I. Selection of Vehicle-Mounted Portable Toilets Currently, there are various vehicle-mounted portable toilets available on the market, with significant differences in price and functionality. For example, a foldable vehicle-mounted toilet with a cover, designed for outdoor camping emergencies, is priced at approximately 81 yuan and is suitable for short trips or emergencies. Another option is an outdoor toilet for vehicle emergencies, camping, and travel, which is portable, odor-proof, and foldable for women, priced at only 21.85 yuan but with relatively basic functions. Additionally, a new cross-border detachable portable toilet for self-driving tours and camping, with a 25L large capacity, is priced at 203 yuan. It is more spacious and detachable, making it suitable for multiple people or long trips. When selecting, it is essential to consider budget, frequency of use, and portability requirements comprehensively.

II. Facilities at RV Campsites in Highway Service Areas Approximately 170 highway service areas across the country have established RV service facilities, providing around 700 RV campsites. These campsites are equipped with water and electricity posts, sewage discharge ports, shower rooms, and parking spaces, allowing RVs to replenish water, charge, and discharge sewage. Some service areas also have supporting restrooms to meet the toilet needs during self-driving trips. If using an RV or large vehicle, it is advisable to prioritize stopping at such service areas.

III. Risks in the Use and Management of Portable Toilets There have been cases where portable toilets were inadvertently loaded onto highways due to management oversights, putting users in danger. This reflects two issues: first, drivers did not carefully inspect the cargo when loading, and second, the management of portable toilets did not securely fix the equipment or set up warning signs. When using portable toilets, ensure they are securely fixed to prevent movement during vehicle travel; management should strengthen inspections to prevent similar incidents.

IV. Alternative Solutions with Emergency Supplies If a portable toilet is not available, emergency urine bags can be used as a temporary solution. These bags have a curved design at the opening, suitable for both men and women, with a large opening diameter. They contain absorbent sand, have a relatively large capacity, and are well-sealed to prevent liquid spillage. Emergency urine bags are portable and suitable for use in emergencies, but it is essential to dispose of them promptly to avoid environmental pollution.
