Hexi Internet-famous Container House

Admin September 16, 2026

The Hexi internet-famous container houses mainly involve two types of scenarios: creative commercial blocks and controversial construction projects:

Creative Commercial Block: Represented by the "Creative City - Box Encounter BOX Commercial Street"

This project is located on Liulin Road in Hexi District and is developed by Tianjin Urban Investment Group. It uses staggered and stacked containers as the main building structure, covering an area of approximately 14,430 square meters, with a total container area of about 3,231 square meters. It is positioned as an innovative commercial block. Its core features include:

  • Functional Positioning: It integrates container creative spaces, owner-operated stores, and characteristic economic business formats to create a high-quality cultural consumption scene, filling the gap in regional characteristic commerce.
  • Design Advantages: Relying on the flexibility of modular containers, it achieves rapid construction and low-cost operation while stimulating the cultural vitality of the block through the integration of diverse business formats.
  • Social Value: The project, in collaboration with four universities, has launched the "College Student Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship Practice Alliance," providing low-cost entrepreneurial spaces to assist young people in innovation and entrepreneurship and talent retention in Tianjin, becoming a practical case of the "industry-city integration" model in Tianjin.

Controversial Construction Project: Taking the "Greenway Park Container Lighting House" as an Example

A nearly 6-meter-high container house was planned to be built at the entrance of Greenway Park in Hexi District, which raised doubts among residents:

  • Controversy Focus: Residents believe that the project involves commercial construction on ecologically protected land, allegedly changing the land nature. Additionally, the purpose and approval documents were not publicly disclosed, and the process lacked transparency. Furthermore, the accompanying public toilet is too close to residential buildings, potentially causing nighttime light and noise pollution.
  • Official Response: The district culture and tourism bureau defined it as a "movable facility" that does not apply to the traditional building approval process. The district urban management committee cited the "Park Design Code," stating that it belongs to "recreational and service buildings," and the construction scale meets the code requirements. Moreover, the business format is mainly for the convenience of the public and does not involve commercial activities.
  • Event Outcome: After multi-party coordination, the controversial project was ultimately halted, and the issues were resolved.

Common Industry Characteristics

Container house projects in Hexi District generally demonstrate the following advantages:

  • Environmental Protection: They adopt modular design, reducing on-site construction pollution, and the materials can be recycled.
  • Economy: They shorten the construction cycle, reduce labor and time costs, and are suitable for temporary or low-cost demand scenarios.
  • Flexibility: Container units can be freely combined to adapt to various functional needs such as commerce, residence, and office work.
