Guinea Pig Mobile Toilet
Admin October 02, 2026
The construction and training of a mobile toilet for guinea pigs should follow scientific methods, with the following specific steps:

I. Toilet Structure Construction
- Opening Design: Use a dedicated guinea pig toilet instead of a rabbit toilet. The opening size should be controlled between 0.5 cm and 1 cm. Too narrow an opening can trap feces, while too wide an opening may cause the guinea pig's feet to get stuck and injured.
- Layered Material Placement:
- Bottom Layer: Lay down pet pee pads to absorb urine and reduce odors.
- Middle Layer: Cover with a plastic film that matches the size (choose a material that is not easily damaged), which can extend the lifespan of the pee pads and reduce the frequency of replacement.
- Top Layer: Sprinkle cat litter or wood pellets (choose particle size based on the thickness of the bottom mesh to prevent overflow and contamination of the guinea pig's feet), or use natural materials such as coffee grounds or tea stalks as alternatives, which have both odor-absorbing and eco-friendly properties.
II. Fixed-Point Excretion Training
- Scent Guidance: Place the guinea pig's feces or a pad soaked with urine inside the toilet, or use a pet-specific feces-attracting spray to target the area, using scent to help it locate the toilet.
- Environmental Adjustment:
- Remove Hiding Places: Avoid placing nests, tunnels, or other hiding spots in the cage to prevent the guinea pig from excreting in non-toilet areas.
- Position Food and Water: Fix the food bowl and water bottle above the toilet to reinforce the habit through the association of "eating in the toilet, excreting in the toilet".
- Space Limitation: Fix the toilet in a corner of the cage and block other corners with heavy objects (such as bricks) to create a "non-corner space", forcing the guinea pig to adapt to a fixed excretion point.
III. Cleaning and Maintenance
- Frequency Control: If the training is successful, the guinea pig can develop a habit of fixed-point excretion, and the cleaning frequency of the mobile toilet can be extended to replacing the pee pads and top-layer materials every 4 days.
- Thorough Disinfection: Regularly clean the toilet structure with a pet-safe disinfectant to prevent bacterial growth, and check if the opening size has become larger due to wear and adjust it promptly.
Precautions: During the initial training period, patiently observe the guinea pig's behavior. If it is found to excrete in non-toilet areas, clean it up immediately and strengthen scent guidance. Avoid physical punishment or frightening, as this may cause stress reactions. Through scientific construction and positive guidance, guinea pigs can efficiently adapt to the mobile toilet and improve the hygiene level of the breeding environment.
