Gaoping Villa Container House

Admin September 15, 2026

The Gaoping villa container house is a villa-style building constructed using containers as basic modules through methods such as splicing and stacking. It features modularity, mobility, and a short construction period, making it suitable for scenarios such as temporary residences, cultural tourism homestays, and self-built houses.

I. Structure and Types
Container houses have a steel structure frame as their core, with walls often made of rock wool, glass wool, or polyurethane sandwich panels, providing both thermal insulation and fire resistance. Based on the construction method, they can be divided into custom fixed container modules (with a high degree of factory automation and non-standard corner fittings arrangements) and variable container modules (with wall panels that can be flipped or extended, such as display containers). According to spatial combinations, they can be categorized as single-container ground placement (for small shops, sentry boxes), horizontal container assembly (for conference rooms, homestay lobbies), vertical container stacking (for dormitories, hotels), and offset/cantilevered/L-shaped/U-shaped enclosures (for popular homestays, cafes).

II. Design Considerations

  1. Layout and Spatial Arrangement: By splicing or stacking 2-3 containers in a staggered manner, functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms can be expanded. For example, connecting two containers can create a flat layout of approximately 100 square meters, including an integrated living and dining area, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bathtub. For small units, it is recommended to use multi-functional furniture such as folding beds and tables to enhance space flexibility.
  2. Lighting and Thermal Insulation: Installing large floor-to-ceiling windows, roof skylights, or glass partitions can enhance indoor lighting. Adding internal thermal insulation layers to walls and roofs and using triple-glazed windows can achieve warmth in winter and coolness in summer, with better thermal insulation performance than red brick walls.
  3. Courtyard and External Environment: The exterior facade can be treated with paint spraying, themed murals, or glass curtain walls to eliminate the industrial feel. Elevating the containers on pile foundations can prevent moisture and pests and facilitate site leveling.

III. Construction Process and Compliance
For long-term residences, it is necessary to follow local requirements for building approval and provide structural drawings stamped by an engineer. Rural homesteads should avoid construction on cultivated land or basic farmland, and forestry approval is required for forest land. Leased land is mostly suitable for temporary structures, and the contract should clearly specify the nature of use. Container houses, being steel structures, must comply with technical regulations for modular combined houses, such as a maximum of 6 floors, a height of no more than 24 meters, and an earthquake resistance level of no more than 8 degrees.
