French Portable Toilet

Admin September 20, 2026

France has unique designs and urban application practices in the field of portable toilets.

At the level of personal portable design: Laurent Haillewa, a Frenchman, designed a highly innovative "portable toilet". This toilet was born after Hurricane Katrina, when natural disasters made it difficult for people to access sanitation facilities, and its original design intention was precisely to cope with such emergency situations. Structurally, it is essentially cardboard that can be folded into a box-shaped seat. This design greatly enhances portability, making it convenient to carry and store in various scenarios. The accompanying plastic bag with an absorbent pad can effectively handle excrement and prevent environmental pollution. It weighs about two kilograms, making it easy for a single person to carry. Even the heavy-duty version can withstand a weight of 200 kilograms and can meet the usage requirements of 20 hours per day. It can play an important role in scenarios such as coping with natural disasters, outdoor adventures, and temporary events.

At the level of urban public application: Paris, as a representative city in France, faces a large population flow and complex urban management issues, so the reasonable layout and sufficient supply of public toilets are crucial. To solve the public toilet problem, the Paris municipal government has actively taken measures. On the one hand, it has increased the number of portable toilets, which can be flexibly arranged according to the pedestrian traffic and actual needs of different areas. For example, the number of portable toilets is increased in places with high pedestrian traffic such as tourist attractions, commercial centers, and transportation hubs to meet the toilet needs of citizens and tourists. On the other hand, it has started to optimize the layout of public toilets. By conducting in-depth analysis of the population distribution and activity patterns in different areas of the city, it reasonably plans the locations of public toilets, making their distribution more scientific and reasonable, improving the usage efficiency of public toilets, enhancing the level of urban public services, and creating a more convenient and comfortable urban environment for residents and tourists.
