Foreign Invention of Portable Toilets

Admin October 12, 2026

The portable toilets invented abroad mainly include the following three types, all designed to meet specific scenario needs and reflecting the combination of technological innovation and practicality:

1. Dutch Fully Automatic Rotating Public Toilet: Efficient Cleaning and Seamless Rotation
The fully automatic rotating public toilet invented in the Netherlands is designed with the core concept of seamless rotation for use. It is equipped with two independent toilet systems inside. After a user leaves, the toilet automatically initiates a cleaning process: the floor-wide flushing system covers the entire space, ensuring no residual stains remain; simultaneously, the toilet area undergoes deep cleaning with high-pressure water or chemical cleaning agents, providing a hygienic environment for the next user. This design significantly enhances the usage efficiency of public toilets, especially suitable for high-traffic scenarios such as tourist attractions and train stations, reducing downtime caused by cleaning. Additionally, its automated operation reduces labor maintenance costs, reflecting the development trend of intelligent public facilities.

2. German Portable Leaf Toilet: Eco-Friendly Materials and Super Absorbent Technology
The portable toilet designed by German designer Eva Tint focuses on environmental friendliness and portability. Its appearance mimics the shape of a leaf and is made of a special biodegradable eco-friendly material. When folded, it measures only about 12×28 centimeters and can easily fit into a woman's handbag. Inside, it is filled with a super absorbent agent that rapidly converts liquid into a gel-like substance, effectively preventing leakage and odor diffusion, with a single use capable of absorbing about 600 milliliters of liquid. This product first gained attention during the 2008 European Cup for solving the problem of female fans queuing for toilets and has since expanded to scenarios such as car travel and outdoor concerts. It features usage instructions printed on the bottom, comes with cleaning wipes, and can be disposed of as ordinary garbage after use, requiring no special recycling process, balancing convenience and environmental friendliness.

3. Portable Toilet for Long-Distance Drivers: Low Cost and Scenario Adaptability
To address the difficulty of long-distance drivers finding toilets while driving, a simple-structured and low-cost portable toilet has emerged on the market. Its design is based on the universality of mineral water bottles, using a connecting device to direct waste directly into the bottle, meeting the emergency needs of male drivers. The device is small in size and light in weight, can be fixed inside the driver's cabin, and is easy to operate without additional cleaning. Although its functionality is single, it has become a practical choice for specific user groups due to its high scenario adaptability (such as in remote areas or during traffic jams), reflecting the precise response of product design to niche demands.

These three types of portable toilets demonstrate foreign technological exploration and innovative practices in the field of mobile sanitation from the perspectives of public facility efficiency, environmental friendliness and portability, and scenario adaptability.
