Fish Pond Container House Construction
Admin September 15, 2026
Caution is required when constructing container houses by fish ponds, as multiple factors such as approval, design, construction, and maintenance need to be considered. Unauthorized construction without approval may be identified as illegal and demolished.

Approval Procedures
- No Approval Required in Most Rural Areas: Container houses are not permanent buildings, so construction in most rural areas may not require approval procedures, saving the time and effort of traditional building approval processes and waiting times. However, if you want to live there permanently and build on rural homestead land, you must follow local requirements to apply for building approval and provide structural drawings stamped by an engineer. You cannot directly set up containers as permanent residences without permission, otherwise, there is a risk of being identified as illegal construction.
- Restrictions on Special Sites: It is strictly prohibited to build container houses on cultivated land and basic farmland; forestry approval is required for construction in forest land; most leased land can only be used for temporary structures, not permanent residences, and the nature of use should be clearly stated in the contract.
Design Considerations
- Layout and Space Utilization: Two or three containers can be spliced or stacked in an offset manner to expand functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. For example, connecting two containers can create a flat layout with an integrated living and dining area, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bathtub (approximately 100 square meters); stacking them in an offset manner can create richer spatial levels and leave a leisure courtyard or aisle area on the ground floor to improve ventilation and lighting. For small units, it is recommended to use multi-functional furniture such as folding beds, folding tables, and integrated cabinets to enhance space flexibility.
- Lighting and Insulation: Proper insulation layers and vapor barriers should be installed on the walls and roof, and ventilation (exhaust fans, high windows) should be ensured. Avoid using bare steel plates directly as indoor wall surfaces to prevent internal condensation.
- Courtyard and External Environment: The exterior facade can be treated with paint spraying, themed spray painting, cladding, or glass curtain walls to create a villa-like atmosphere; the container can be elevated on pile foundations to prevent moisture and insects and facilitate site leveling.
Construction and Maintenance
- Construction Phase: All cutting and welding incisions must be polished and coated with epoxy primer and topcoat to prevent rusting.
- Later Maintenance: Check welds, corners, bottoms, and eaves annually, and immediately polish and repaint any small rust spots found; reapply heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings every 8 - 12 years in inland dry areas, every 7 - 10 years in southern humid areas, and every 3 - 5 years in coastal areas; replace the sealant around doors and windows, container joints, and roof gutters every 5 - 7 years, clean roof leaves annually, and strictly prohibit water accumulation on the roof.
