First CIIE Dividend: Movable Container Supermarkets Enter the Public Eye
From November 5 to 10, under the theme "New Era, Shared Future," the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) drew 172 countries, regions, and international organizations, more than 3,600 exhibitors, and over 55,556 domestic and overseas buyers for sourcing talks. Total exhibition area reached 41,667 square meters. The first CIIE was rich in highlights and delivered strong results.
The first CIIE brought together 156 countries, 3 regions, and 13 international organizations. All G20, BRICS, and Shanghai Cooperation Organization members took part, along with 58 Belt and Road countries and 35 least-developed countries. Every exhibitor was from overseas. Overseas buyers numbered more than 6,200. With so many countries and firms attending, the event truly enabled "buy from the world, sell to the world," and guests praised it as a "world exposition."
Among the star exhibits that drew the most attention, one was the largest in scale—the Taurus gantry milling machine—and the other was the highest in price—the AW189 helicopter at $27,777,778. After the expo closed, Yangtze River Delta buyers secured both: a Wuxi firm purchased the former, while a Shanghai firm took the latter with a major import order.
What surprised us most at the first CIIE was the movable container look everywhere—especially at the CIIE import supermarket. Global foods and daily goods filled the aisles; one side of the market was built from movable containers of many shapes. Shelves packed with goods drew crowds of eager shoppers. The container supermarket was eye-catching and hard to miss.
