Export Container House Specifications

Admin September 15, 2026

Export container houses come in a variety of specifications, with common standard sizes and customized specifications as follows:

I. International Standard Sizes
The specifications of dry containers (DRY CONTAINER) commonly used in international maritime transport serve as the basic dimensions for export container houses, including:

  1. 20-foot Standard Container: The external dimensions are 6058mm in length, 2438mm in width, and 2591mm in height, with an internal usable space of approximately 5898mm in length, 2352mm in width, and 2390mm in height. Such containers are commonly used for single-person offices, dormitories, or small shops.
  2. 40-foot Standard Container: The external dimensions are 12192mm in length, 2438mm in width, and 2591mm in height, with an internal usable space of approximately 11998mm in length, 2330mm in width, and 2350mm in height. Such containers can be divided into multi-functional spaces, suitable for multi-person dormitories or temporary exhibition halls.
  3. 40-foot High Cube Container: The external height is increased to 2896mm, with an internal height of 2655mm, suitable for scenarios requiring higher ceilings, such as exhibition halls or housing.

II. Differences Between Domestic and Export Standards
The standard dimensions of container houses commonly used on construction sites in China are 6 meters in length, 3 meters in width, and 2.9 meters in height. In contrast, export container houses are adjusted to a width of 2.4 meters to meet international transport standards, while maintaining a height of 2.9 meters and a length of 6 meters.

III. Customized Specifications
According to project requirements, container houses can be customized to non-standard specifications:

  1. Length: Can be extended to 3m, 8m, 9m, 12m, or even 14m. For example, a 20-foot double-wing expandable container can provide an indoor area of up to 36㎡ when expanded.
  2. Width: Options include 2.5m, 2.55m, 3m, 4m, etc., to accommodate different site constraints.
  3. Height: Can be adjusted to 2.6m, 2.7m, 2.8m, or 2.9m to meet insulation, ventilation, or equipment installation requirements.
  4. Functional Modules: By combining shower modules, restroom modules, conference room modules, etc., composite functional spaces can be constructed.

IV. Special Structural Types

  1. Double-Wing Expandable Container: During transport, the side spaces are collapsed, and when expanded, the area is doubled. For example, a 20-foot container can provide a usable area of up to 36㎡ when expanded.
  2. Foldable Container: By using a folding structure, the transport volume is reduced, allowing for quick on-site assembly and disassembly, suitable for emergency relief or temporary medical facilities.
