Europe and America Container Renovated Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

Container-renovated houses are applied in Europe and America, featuring diverse forms and unique characteristics, and are present in multiple fields such as residential, commercial, and cultural areas.

In the residential field, many places in Europe and America have transformed containers into distinctive residences. For example, the Quartz Cabin in Cornwall, UK, is designed for five guests, featuring a blue exterior and exposed corrugated steel. The glass doors and windows allow ample indoor light, and the main living space is connected to the outdoor garden, with complete internal facilities. The 'Container House' in Auckland is made up of two old containers, covering an area of only 45 square meters, yet it has received the first '8 Homestar' certification in New Zealand. It has a warm and modern interior, compact space utilization, and diverse functions. Two sisters transformed a 12-meter container into a 30-square-meter luxury villa with a patio, surrounded by a beautiful environment and exquisitely decorated inside.

In the commercial and cultural fields, container-renovated houses are also widely present. The 'Dock Hostel' in Warnemünde, a coastal city in northern Germany, is composed of 78 old containers, allowing tourists to enjoy views of the port and shipyard from the windows. The i31 Hotel in the Mitte district of Berlin has four special suites renovated from containers, located on the rooftop terrace, with complete facilities and surrounded by nurseries and garden furniture. Companies such as Daimler and H&M use container 'pop-up' stores as temporary sales spaces or promotional stalls, stimulating customers' curiosity and increasing their spending.

In other fields, the German Federal Defense Force uses containers to build temporary hospitals, rescue centers, and ambulance stations. During the European refugee crisis in 2015, various places in Germany used containers to build transitional housing for refugees. There are also seasonal restaurants renovated from containers in the coastal areas of northern Germany. In the agricultural field, containers have been transformed into farms, enabling vegetable growing and fish farming in city centers or backyards.
