Emei Mountain Portable Toilets

Admin September 27, 2026

Portable toilets in Emei Mountain are an important part of the scenic area's public facilities. Although there are currently some issues, relevant departments have taken multiple measures to improve them.

Configuration and Functions of Portable Toilets

As a popular scenic spot in Sichuan, Emei Mountain has made portable toilets a standard facility. According to statistics, over 2,000 sets of portable restrooms have been deployed in key scenic spots across Sichuan, with Emei Mountain, as a core scenic area, having an adequate number of portable toilets that are widely distributed. These facilities are typically equipped with non-slip floors, ventilation systems, and odor control devices, with some also featuring barrier-free facilities to meet the needs of different tourists. For example, non-slip floors reduce the risk of slipping on wet surfaces after rain or cleaning; ventilation systems maintain air circulation through natural or mechanical means, reducing odor concentration; odor control devices neutralize odor molecules through chemical or physical methods, enhancing the user experience. The addition of barrier-free facilities reflects the scenic area's care for special groups and aligns with the principle of inclusivity in public facilities.

Existing Issues and Tourist Feedback

Despite the well-configured portable toilets, there are still shortcomings in actual use. The issues reported by tourists mainly include:

  1. Poor sanitary conditions: Some toilets suffer from pervasive odors, residual unknown liquids on the floor, overflowing trash bins, and other problems. Especially during peak seasons with high tourist traffic, insufficient cleaning frequency leads to environmental degradation.
  2. Frequent equipment failures: Flushing malfunctions are a common issue, possibly caused by equipment aging, inadequate maintenance, or improper operation by tourists, affecting normal use.
  3. Severe queuing: Due to the relatively small number of stalls in women's restrooms, queuing times are long during peak seasons, reducing tourist satisfaction.

Improvement Measures and Future Plans

In response to the above issues, tourists have proposed multiple suggestions, which the scenic area management department has gradually implemented:

  1. Increase temporary facilities: Set up additional temporary portable toilets during peak periods to alleviate supply-demand conflicts and shorten queuing times.
  2. Optimize equipment maintenance: Switch to automatic flushing devices to reduce human operational errors; strengthen daily inspections to promptly repair faults.
  3. Enhance ventilation and cleaning: Upgrade ventilation systems to increase exhaust volume; publicize cleaning complaint hotlines to accept tourist supervision, ensuring cleaning frequency and quality.
  4. Advance public toilet renovation projects: Emei City plans to build or renovate 32 public toilets, adopting sloped roof designs to continue traditional residential features, with all expected to open by December 31, 2025. The new public toilets will integrate modern functions with regional culture, further improving the restroom environment.

Through configuration optimization, problem rectification, and long-term planning, the service level of portable toilets in Emei Mountain is gradually improving, providing tourists with a more convenient and comfortable experience.
