Elevating Mobile Toilet

Admin October 01, 2026

Dutch companies have introduced various types of elevating public toilets, featuring clever designs and practical functions that effectively address layout and usability challenges in public spaces.

One type of elevating public toilet remains hidden beneath the road surface during normal times, seamlessly blending into the surrounding environment without affecting urban landscapes or pedestrian traffic. When needed, a simple button press causes the toilet to rise swiftly to ground level in just 25 seconds, offering exceptional convenience and efficiency. This rapid elevation design significantly reduces waiting time and improves usage efficiency. Moreover, the toilet incorporates an automatic cleaning system that performs six cleans per hour, ensuring excellent hygiene while reducing manual cleaning frequency and workload. This provides users with a cleaner, more comfortable environment and effectively prevents odors and mess caused by delayed cleaning in traditional public toilets.

Another Dutch-invented elevating toilet operates only at night, rising precisely at 11 PM to a height of 1.2 meters. This design considers the reduced pedestrian and vehicle traffic during late hours, meeting specific needs without disrupting normal activities. Its elevation mechanism, similar to elevator operation, uses specialized mechanical devices for smooth vertical movement. During the day, it appears as an ordinary metal manhole cover flush with the ground, attracting minimal attention while saving space and maintaining urban street aesthetics.

The emergence of these elevating mobile toilets demonstrates Dutch innovation and human-centered design in public facilities, offering new approaches for optimizing urban public space utilization and addressing sanitation challenges.
