Eight-Meter Container House

Admin September 16, 2026

An eight-meter container house typically refers to a modular building based on standard container dimensions, customized or combined to achieve a length of eight meters. The common specifications are 3 meters in width × 8 meters in length × 2.8 meters in height, with an internal space of approximately 22 square meters, suitable for temporary accommodation, office, commercial display, and other scenarios.

I. Specifications and Structural Features Container houses are usually based on standard shipping containers for modification or custom-built in factories. A standard 20-foot container is 6.058 meters long, and a 40-foot container is 12.192 meters long, while an eight-meter length is mostly non-standard and customized through cutting, splicing, or direct design. For example, customized container houses in Beijing can be adjusted in length, width, and height as needed, with common non-standard sizes including 3m × 6m, 3m × 8m, 3m × 12m, etc., and heights ranging from 2.6m to 2.9m. An eight-meter-long container house generally adopts a steel structure frame, with walls made of color-steel sandwich panels, featuring modularity, mobility, and reusability. It can be equipped with facilities such as bathrooms, kitchens, and partitions inside.

II. Application Scenarios

  1. Temporary Accommodation: Scenarios such as construction sites, research and study bases, and wild camping require the rapid construction of centralized accommodation spaces. An eight-meter container house can be configured with a multi-person dormitory layout and equipped with bathroom facilities to meet short-term living needs. For example, the modular assembly of container houses provided in Dongguan can be mass-produced, suitable for the temporary accommodation needs of training bases or research and study bases.
  2. Construction Site Office: Construction teams and project management personnel require temporary office spaces, and container houses can be quickly deployed to provide independent offices or meeting rooms.
  3. Commercial Display: Scenarios such as temporary shops, exhibition halls, and cafes utilize the flexibility of container houses to quickly build sales or display spaces.
  4. Special Purposes: Such as field hospitals, temporary command centers, warehouses, etc., the modular design of container houses can adapt to different functional requirements.

III. Advantages and Limitations Advantages:

  • Easy Construction: Prefabricated in factories and quickly assembled on-site, shortening the construction cycle.
  • Low Cost: Compared with traditional buildings, the material and construction costs are lower.
  • High Flexibility: It can be expanded, moved, or recombined as needed to adapt to different site requirements.
  • Environmentally Friendly and Recyclable: Steel and color-steel plates can be recycled, reducing construction waste.

Limitations:

  • Limited Space: The internal height and width are limited by the container dimensions, which may affect living comfort. For example, the floor height of the container houses for the Nagoya Asian Games was just over 2 meters, which was not friendly to tall athletes.
  • Complex Approval Process: As temporary buildings, they require relevant approval procedures, and some regions may limit the usage period.
  • Sound and Heat Insulation: Additional treatment of the sound and heat insulation performance of walls and doors and windows is required; otherwise, it may affect the user experience.
