Solving Door Facing Toilet by Moving the Vestibule

Admin October 06, 2026

When the door faces the toilet, it can be resolved by moving the vestibule or setting up a functional vestibule. Here are the specific methods:

1. Use wall extensions or storage cabinets to create fixed barriers

If space permits, a wall extension structure can be added between the entrance door and the bathroom, such as building a thin wall (about 10-15 centimeters thick) on one side of the entrance area. This can serve as a background wall for the vestibule and completely block the view. If wall extension is restricted, a floor-to-ceiling storage cabinet can be used as an alternative, such as a tall shoe cabinet with a wooden or metal frame. The recommended depth of the cabinet is 35-40 centimeters, which can meet the storage needs for shoes and form a physical barrier. Such designs need to pay attention to the spacing between the cabinet and the bathroom door to avoid affecting the walking path.

2. Use glass partitions for semi-transparent barriers

Glass partitions are a preferred option that balances natural light and privacy. Materials such as frosted glass, patterned glass, or wired glass can be chosen and fixed between the entrance door and the bathroom with a metal frame, forming a partition wall about 1.8-2 meters high. It is recommended to control the light transmittance of the glass partition at 30%-50%, which can avoid a direct view into the bathroom while maintaining a sense of space openness. If enhanced privacy is needed, movable fabric curtains or blinds can be installed on the inner side of the glass.

3. Combine decorative vestibule designs to optimize space aesthetics

Decorative vestibules can resolve the issue of the door facing the toilet through designs such as perforated partitions or arched feature walls. For example, a perforated partition made of wood or metal can be used, with patterns such as geometric shapes or traditional Chinese cloud patterns. The recommended height of the partition is level with the door frame (about 2.1-2.3 meters), which can block the view while maintaining space fluidity. Arched feature walls are suitable for European or rustic styles, softening the abruptness of the direct view to the bathroom with curved lines. The wall can be decorated with paintings or hooks to enhance practicality.

4. Flexibly use a combination of screens and green plants

If space is limited or temporary layout adjustments are needed, movable screens combined with green plants can be used. Screen materials can be wood, bamboo, or acrylic, with a recommended height of 1.5-1.8 meters and a width covering the spacing between the entrance door and the bathroom door. One or two large potted plants (such as Monstera or Areca Palm) can be placed in front of the screen to enhance the blocking effect and soften the space lines with the natural form of the plants. This solution requires regular adjustment of the screen position to avoid a rigid space due to long-term fixed placement.
