Moving Dog Toilet Newspaper

Admin September 21, 2026

If your dog has previously been trained to defecate at a fixed spot using newspapers, you can refer to the following methods to move the newspaper in the dog's toilet:

Direct Replacement Method

If your dog has developed a habit of defecating at a fixed spot through newspaper training and is highly dependent on the newspaper, you can directly place the household toilet at the spot where the dog usually defecates. Lay newspapers on the toilet. Since the dog is familiar with the smell and location of the newspapers, it will voluntarily go to the newspapers on the toilet to defecate. Repeat this operation several times, and the dog will gradually get used to defecating on the toilet. At this point, you can gradually remove the newspapers to let the dog adapt to a toilet environment without newspapers. The key to this method is to keep the toilet location stable and avoid frequent changes to prevent the dog from getting confused.

Gradual Position Change Method

During the training process, you can gradually change the position of the newspapers to guide the dog to adapt to a new defecation spot. After each change of the newspaper position, take the dog to the new newspaper spot, tell it in a gentle tone, 'Pee here, good boy,' and give appropriate rewards such as snacks or petting to reinforce the dog's memory of the new spot. The frequency of position changes should not be too fast. Ensure that the dog has enough time to adapt to the new spot.

Gradual Newspaper Area Reduction Method

If the dog can already defecate stably on the newspapers, you can try to gradually reduce the area of the newspapers. Start by reducing one piece of newspaper and observe whether the dog can still defecate on the remaining newspapers. If the dog can adapt, continue to reduce the number of newspapers until there is only one left. At the same time, gradually expand the dog's activity range and let it move around in a larger space. During this process, the newspapers can be gradually moved to guide the dog to adapt to a new defecation spot. This method requires patience and care to ensure that the dog does not have defecation disorders during the process of reducing the newspaper area.
