DIY Installation of Mobile Toilets

Admin October 02, 2026

DIY installation of mobile toilets can be achieved through the following two methods:

Method 1: Using Buckets or Water Storage Tanks as the Main Structure

This method involves using discarded containers as the foundation and modifying them to achieve basic functionality.

  1. Base Construction:

    • Install universal wheels on a wooden board or plastic pallet to ensure mobility. For example, assemble a rectangular frame from wooden boards and secure four universal wheels; or directly use a plastic pallet as the base to reduce processing steps.
    • The base should have a drainage hole reserved for connecting to the sewage pipe.
  2. Container Modification:

    • Cut buckets or water storage tanks (such as plastic cans recovered from garbage stations) to create an entrance and internal space. Wear protective gear when using an angle grinder to avoid flying debris.
    • Stacking containers can increase height or create functional zones. For example, stack two top-opening water storage tanks and secure them with self-tapping screws, using the upper tank as the toilet area and the lower tank to hide pipes.
  3. Installation of Functional Components:

    • Toilet: Drill a hole in the middle of the base, install a drainage elbow, and connect it to a floor drain to ensure smooth sewage discharge. A simple plastic toilet can be used and should be sealed with glue when fixed.
    • Shower: Assemble a shower holder using PVC pipes, connect a water pipe joint and a spray-type showerhead, and reserve a hot water interface (if hot water is needed).
    • Sink: Fix a stainless steel or plastic basin on the side wall and connect it to the water tank's inlet pipe to ensure independent water use.
    • Door and Sealing: Process a door frame from wooden boards or aluminum-plastic panels, install hinges and a wooden door, and use sealing strips at the gaps to prevent odor diffusion.

Method 2: Using a New Toilet Offset Connector for Assisted Installation

This method is suitable for scenarios where there is an existing sewage pipe but its position needs to be adjusted, and the operation is more standardized.

  1. Construction Preparation:

    • After tiling, leave a 3-4cm construction slot at the target position for embedding the offset connector.
    • Clean the sewage pipe opening to ensure no debris is blocking it.
  2. Offset Connector Installation:

    • Insert the lower interface of the offset connector into the original sewage pipe and backfill with cement slurry to secure it and prevent displacement.
    • Connect the upper interface to the toilet's sewage outlet, wipe the connection clean, and apply PVC special glue to ensure sealing.
    • Apply lubricant when installing the sealing ring to avoid flipping or scratching and to prevent debris from falling into the pipe.
  3. Final Touches:

    • Fill and seal the empty space after offsetting with cement or waterproof material to prevent leakage.
    • Choose the length of the flat pipe according to the toilet type: select Type I (short pipe) for floor-mounted toilets and Type II (long pipe) for wall-mounted toilets.

Precautions:

  • Before modification, confirm whether local regulations allow the self-construction of mobile toilets to avoid violations.
  • The drainage system should be reasonably designed to prevent sewage backflow or odor reflux.
  • When involving water and electricity modifications, it is recommended to have professional personnel operate to ensure safety.
