DIY Mobile Toilet Outdoor

Admin September 23, 2026

DIY outdoor mobile toilet solutions mainly include using water storage barrels, water storage tanks, and pallets for construction. Alternatively, common outdoor toilet solutions such as portable toilets, disposable emergency bags, simple pit toilets, and small folding toilets can be chosen.

Using a water storage barrel: First, split the water storage barrel in half with an angle grinder. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board for mobility. Use wooden strips and self-tapping screws to increase the height of the barrel. Cut an opening on the side of the barrel, install sponge strips to form a door frame, and embed plastic soft boards to create raised walls. Place the upper half of the barrel on top of the wooden strips as a roof. Cut a hole at the bottom of the barrel and install a drain pipe to form a floor drain. Drill holes on the side and bottom of a plastic bucket and connect them with direct fittings. Place the plastic bucket on the roof as a small water storage device. Use water pipes to make a bath heater, install a three-way fitting below the inlet pipe and connect a showerhead, place a toilet and install a water tank, and secure them with glass glue. Connect the drain pipe to a sewage tank. Horizontally connect a water pipe to the three-way fitting of the outlet pipe and extend it to the door as the inlet pipe for a sink. Cut a hole in the door, install a fitting, and connect a hose.

Using a water storage tank and a pallet: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of a pallet. Place a water storage tank recovered from a garbage station on the pallet. Use an angle grinder to cut along the marked line on the top of the tank to remove the top and form an open tank. Invert another open-top tank and stack it on the first one, securing the outer frames of the two tanks with self-tapping screws. Cut a rectangular opening on the outer frame of the tank as a door. Cut a hole in the interior floor, insert a elbow from the bottom into the water pipe, seal the gaps with glue, and then cut off the excess pipe. Align the toilet with the drain hole and secure it with glue. Fix a water pipe on the wall clips and install a faucet. Fix a pipe cap below the faucet, connect the water pipe, and cut an opening as the outlet for the drain pipe. Cut a hole in the pipe cap, apply glass glue, and fix a sink made of a stainless steel basin. Connect the inlet pipe to the toilet water tank, connect the shower hose, install a shower bracket and a toilet seat, and use a water pipe to make a spray-type showerhead. Finally, bring a wooden board, fix hinges on the frame of the water storage tank, and attach the other side of the hinges to the wooden board to form the door of the toilet. Then install a door handle.

Common outdoor toilet solutions: Portable toilets are suitable for family self-drive camping or RV travel; disposable emergency bags are suitable for hiking backpackers or as emergency reserves; simple pit toilets are suitable for wilderness areas where primitive camping is allowed; small folding toilets are suitable for backpack camping.
