DIY Mobile Toilet

Admin October 12, 2026

You can refer to the following two methods to make a mobile toilet by yourself:

Method 1: Using a water storage barrel

  1. Basic structure construction Use an angle grinder to split the water storage barrel vertically in the middle, creating two half-barrels as the main body. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the wooden board to ensure mobility. Take wooden strips and fix them to the upper edge of the barrel with self-tapping screws to increase the structural height and accommodate more functional components.
  2. Door frame and wall installation Cut an opening on the side of the water storage barrel for the door. Install sponge strips on both sides to form a door frame, providing cushioning and sealing. Insert plastic soft boards into the gaps between the wooden strips to create raised walls, improving the utilization of internal space. Invert the upper half of the barrel onto the top of the wooden strips as the roof, ensuring the structure is stable.
  3. Waterproofing and aesthetic treatment Paint the wooden strips with white waterproof paint to prevent wood decay and enhance the overall appearance. Use foam strips to拼接 (assemble) discarded honeycomb wooden boards to make a simple door, ensuring smooth opening and closing and good sealing.
  4. Drainage and water storage system Drill holes at the bottom of the barrel and install a drain pipe to form a floor drain for the discharge of excrement. Drill holes on the side and bottom to connect direct fittings. Place a plastic barrel on the roof as a small water storage device for flushing or hand washing.
  5. Functional component installation Use a water pipe to make a simple bathroom heater. Install a three-way fitting below the inlet pipe and connect a showerhead to enable showering. Place a toilet and install a water tank. Fix the toilet with glass glue to prevent leakage, and connect the drain pipe to the sewage barrel. Extend the outlet pipe's three-way fitting horizontally to the door as the inlet pipe for the hand-washing basin. Drill a hole in the door and install a fitting to complete the water circuit.

Method 2: Using a water storage tank and a pallet

  1. Mobile chassis construction Prepare a plastic pallet as the base platform. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of the pallet with tools to ensure load-bearing capacity and mobility.
  2. Water storage tank assembly (steps to be supplemented) This method does not provide detailed instructions on how to fix the water storage tank to the pallet and the subsequent installation steps for functional components. It is speculated that the water storage tank should be placed in the center of the pallet, fixed with brackets or straps, and connected to components such as drain pipes and inlet pipes. However, the specific operations need to be designed according to actual needs.

Precautions

  • Plan the functional areas (such as the toilet area, shower area, and hand-washing area) before construction to avoid space conflicts.
  • Wear protective equipment for all cutting operations to prevent injuries from flying debris from the angle grinder.
  • Use sealant or thread seal tape for water pipe connections to prevent leaks.
  • Regularly clean the sewage barrel of the mobile toilet to avoid the spread of odors.
