Dinghu Residential Container House

Admin September 16, 2026

The Dinghu residential container house is a temporary residential building transformed from a container base, featuring eco-friendliness, energy efficiency, flexible assembly, and easy disassembly and transportation. However, it has fire safety hazards and requires careful selection and standardized use.

Features and Uses

Residential container houses resemble containers and are also known as container model houses, residential containers, and container residences. Due to their eco-friendliness, energy efficiency, flexible assembly, and easy disassembly and transportation, they are commonly used as workers' dormitories on construction sites. They are also sometimes used as field operation houses, office buildings, temporary houses in tourist attractions, and even rental houses. For example, during the pandemic, packing-box units could quickly set up large areas of temporary housing.

Fire Safety Hazards

  • Illegal construction materials: To save costs, some temporary houses on construction sites and illegal buildings of some enterprises often use flammable materials such as polystyrene and polyurethane foam for the core materials. These materials have poor fire resistance and safety, and can be ignited by electrical welding sparks and cigarette butts.
  • Rapid combustion: Once flammable and combustible sandwich materials catch fire, they melt and deform at 80°C, causing droplets that trigger more severe combustion and produce highly toxic combustion products.
  • Difficult firefighting: After a fire breaks out, the flames spread rapidly and the structure is prone to collapse in a short time. The collapsed container houses are wrapped in iron sheets, making it difficult for water cannons to shoot water inside and increasing the difficulty of firefighting and rescue.
  • Difficult escape for trapped individuals: When polystyrene and polyurethane burn, they produce thick black smoke, and toxic fumes accumulate inside the rooms, making it difficult for trapped individuals to escape and prone to casualties.

Safe Use Recommendations

  • Material selection: It is best to use rock wool boards or fireproof cotton as fillers, achieving an A-grade fire resistance rating or higher, to meet fire safety conditions on construction sites.
  • Daily use: Keep heat sources and fire sources away from container houses, and maintain a certain distance for open flame operations; protect wires and cables with sleeves, use metal galvanized boxes for sockets and switch boxes and install them openly, and equip both inside and outside with simple firefighting equipment; maintain a safety distance of at least 6 meters between container houses.
