Dimensions of Single Portable Toilet

Admin October 08, 2026

The common dimensions of single portable toilets can be divided into the following three categories based on type and functional requirements, with specific parameters as follows:

I. Basic Dimension Range

The standard dimensions of a single portable toilet are typically:

  • Length: 1.2 meters to 1.5 meters
  • Width: 1.0 meter to 1.2 meters
  • Height: 2.2 meters to 2.5 meters
These dimensions are suitable for ordinary scenarios, such as temporary events and construction sites, meeting basic toilet needs while ensuring transportation convenience. The internal space design must ensure that users can stand, turn around, and complete toilet actions normally, but cannot accommodate assistive devices such as wheelchairs.

II. Accessible Toilet Cubicle Dimensions

For individuals with disabilities or mobility impairments, accessible portable toilets require expanded space:

  • Net Dimensions: At least 1.8 meters (length) × 1.5 meters (width), approximately 50% larger than ordinary toilet cubicles.
  • Wheelchair Turning Area: A barrier-free space of 1.5 meters square must be reserved to ensure that wheelchairs can rotate 360 degrees.
  • Door Width Requirements: The door width must be ≥ 80 centimeters. It is recommended to use outward-opening or electric doors to avoid occupying internal space with inward-opening doors.
Such designs must comply with the provisions on barrier-free facilities in the Urban Public Toilet Design Standard (CJJ 14-2016) to ensure that wheelchair users can use them independently and safely.

III. Supplementary Specifications

Some portable toilets may have their dimensions further adjusted due to functional expansion or special requirements:

  • Large-sized Single Cubicle: The length can reach 2 meters, the width 1.2 meters, and the height 2 meters, covering an area of approximately 5-10 square meters. Such toilets may be equipped with independent sinks, storage cabinets, and other facilities, suitable for high-end events or long-term use scenarios.
  • Net Dimensions of Internal Toilet Cubicles: It is recommended that the net width be ≥ 0.9 meters and the depth be 1.2 meters to 1.5 meters to ensure user comfort. If the interior includes equipment such as toilets and urinals, the dimensions must be adjusted according to the specific layout.

Notes: Actual dimensions may vary due to materials (such as color-steel plates or plastics) or design requirements. For example, lightweight plastic materials may reduce volume through structural optimization, while color-steel plate materials may be slightly larger due to structural strength requirements. In addition, transportation restrictions (such as road height limits and container dimensions) may also affect the final design. It is recommended to make customized adjustments according to specific use scenarios and industry standards (such as CJJ 14-2016).
