Differences Between Mobile Homes and Containers

Admin September 15, 2026

There are significant differences between mobile homes and containers in terms of structural origin, manufacturing processes, performance characteristics, application scenarios, and costs:

Structural Origin and Manufacturing Processes

  • Containers: There are usually two production and processing techniques. One is directly transforming shipping containers, retaining their original frame structures. The other involves structural design in production factories, where the top and bottom are made according to container dimensions, connected by high-quality load-bearing columns to form a frame, and then combined with color-steel sandwich panels as walls.
  • Mobile Homes: Mostly prefabricated and assembled buildings, originating from container modification technology. They are assembled and disassembled quickly through steel frame structures combined with color-steel plates. Some mobile homes are newly built according to ISO modules, with a higher degree of factory production, and also feature variable box modules with wall panels that can be flipped, drawn, or rotated.

Performance Characteristics

  • Containers: High strength, designed with steel structures to withstand harsh weather conditions and natural disasters; high mobility, easily moved from one place to another; high flexibility, can be combined and modified according to needs; good sealing performance with excellent water tightness; long lifespan, as the house is an integral structure with an internal frame and steel plate walls, which can be decorated with wooden panels and can be relocated as a whole, with a service life of over 20 years.
  • Mobile Homes: Fire-resistant, wind-resistant, and moisture-resistant; no foundation construction required, can be directly hoisted and put into use, greatly shortening the construction cycle; can be repeatedly relocated and reused, in line with the trend of green buildings.

Application Scenarios

  • Containers: Commonly used for migrant worker dormitories, outdoor construction projects, daily buildings in life, construction site buildings, road construction, field operations, emergency housing, small residences, urban pop-up stores, and flagship stores with unique features.
  • Mobile Homes: Widely used in construction site dormitories, temporary offices, emergency resettlement, scenic area homestays, urban temporary offices, and creative markets.

Costs

  • Containers: The selling price of residential container mobile homes usually ranges from 5,000 to 12,000 yuan. However, when purchasing a container house, one must first consider the land price, and the decoration is difficult and costly.
  • Mobile Homes: Costs vary depending on materials, specifications, and configurations. The overall cost is influenced by construction techniques and materials, and they have a cost advantage in the field of temporary buildings.
