Design of Small Container Houses

Admin September 16, 2026

For the design of small container houses, you can refer to the case of assembling three containers, planning from aspects such as structure, space, style, and technical optimization.

In terms of structural layout, a design can be adopted where two standard containers are stacked vertically with one side cantilevered, and a customized widened container is placed underneath as the main body of the first floor, connecting the upper and lower parts like a link. This layout is not only unique and novel but also effectively utilizes space. The widened main body of the first floor can accommodate main functional areas such as a living room and kitchen, while the stacked containers can serve as private spaces like bedrooms. At the same time, the widened container can also support a staircase leading to the second floor, facilitating vertical traffic.

Regarding space utilization, attention should be paid to the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. A 138-square-meter indoor living area can be complemented by an outdoor space of the same size. Through large glass doors and windows or open-space design, a natural transition between indoor and outdoor spaces can be achieved, increasing the sense of openness and transparency. The flat roof can be transformed into a terrace, providing residents with a place for leisure and sightseeing; the area under the cantilevered container can form a shaded corridor, offering a cool resting area in summer and adding a sense of architectural layering.

In terms of style creation, an extreme sense of modernity can be pursued. RTboard panels, metal exterior walls, and weathering steel can be used to complement each other. RTboard panels have unique textures and qualities, while metal exterior walls and weathering steel can showcase the toughness and modernity of industrial style, retaining the original texture of the containers while giving the building a refined style. In terms of color matching, simple and bright tones such as white, gray, and black can be chosen to create a fashionable and elegant atmosphere.

Regarding technical optimization, attention should be paid to thermal insulation performance, energy supply systems, and intelligent management. For thermal insulation performance, high-efficiency insulation materials can be used to wrap the containers to reduce heat transfer; for the energy supply system, renewable energy sources such as solar panels can be used to provide power support for the house, achieving green environmental protection; the intelligent management system can integrate functions such as lighting control, temperature regulation, and security monitoring to improve the comfort and convenience of living.
