How Much is the Deposit for Container Houses?
There is no fixed standard for the deposit on container houses, typically ranging from several hundred yuan to over ten thousand yuan, depending on the type of container, its configuration, the rental period, and mutual agreement between the parties.

Common Deposit Collection Models
Deposit collection usually follows the principles of "one month's deposit plus one month's rent" or "one month's deposit plus three months' rent." For example, if the monthly rent is 2000 yuan, a deposit of 2000 yuan is required under the "one month's deposit plus one month's rent" model; while a deposit of 6000 yuan (including three months' rent) is required under the "one month's deposit plus three months' rent" model. This model applies to most ordinary container house rental scenarios, with specific ratios subject to contractual agreements.
Deposit Ranges for Different Types of Containers
- Residential Containers:
- Standard configuration (basic insulation, simple decoration): Deposits typically range from 3000 to 5000 yuan.
- Fully equipped (including air conditioning, independent bathroom, etc.): Deposits can reach 8000 to 10000 yuan.
- Standard Container Houses (6 meters long, 3 meters wide): Deposits are generally not less than 5000 yuan, suitable for scenarios requiring higher space.
- Ordinary Configuration Container Houses:
- Short rental period (less than 3 months): Deposits may range from several hundred to over a thousand yuan.
- Long rental period (over 1 year) or higher configuration: Deposits may reach two to three thousand yuan or even higher.
- Port Container Exchange Deposits:
- General purpose 20-foot container deposit: 5000 yuan; 40-foot container deposit: 10000 yuan.
- Refrigerated container deposit standards are the same as general purpose containers, but the amount doubles if not released.
- For transshipment goods, the deposit for a 20-foot container is 10000 yuan, and for a 40-foot container, it is 20000 yuan.
Rental Specifications and Deposit Examples
- 3x3x2.8-meter (9 square meters) container: Daily rent is approximately 3 yuan, monthly rent is about 90 yuan, and the deposit is about 3000 yuan.
- 3x6x2.8-meter (18 square meters) container: Daily rent is approximately 6 yuan, monthly rent is about 180 yuan, and the deposit is about 5000 yuan.
- Bulk Rental: For renting 2-3 small standard container houses for a period of 1-2 months, the deposit may range from 3000 to 5000 yuan; for renting 10 large designed container houses for a period of over half a year, the deposit may reach 10,000 to 20,000 yuan.
Core Principles for Deposit Collection
The deposit amount should match the actual value, maintenance costs, and rental risks of the container. For example, high-value or easily damaged containers (such as refrigerated containers) may require higher deposits; while low-value or durable containers (such as ordinary dry cargo containers) may have relatively lower deposits. Regardless of the deposit amount, both parties should clearly agree on the deposit amount, payment method, refund conditions (such as acceptance standards upon return, deduction clauses), and refund time in the rental contract to avoid disputes.
