Couple's Container House
Admin September 15, 2026
It is feasible for a couple to transform a container into a house, and there have been many successful cases. The following introduces two aspects: renovation cases and renovation key points.

Renovation Cases
- 15㎡ Forest Cabin: A couple transformed a 15㎡ container located deep in the forest into a 'mini villa' with a total renovation cost of less than 110,000 yuan. The living room is a multifunctional area, including reading, leisure, and dining functions, with foldable tables and chairs; the kitchen has a linear design, meeting daily cooking needs while saving space; the bedroom bed is foldable, serving as a sofa when half-folded; the bathroom has rounded corners, which is aesthetically pleasing and practical.
- 17㎡ Container Wedding House: A post-90s couple in Guangzhou used a 17㎡ container as their wedding house, spending over 7,000 yuan on the container and over 10,000 yuan on soft furnishings. They placed the container on rented farmland, facing north to avoid west sun exposure, and opened three windows to ensure ventilation. The largest window was made of tempered glass and divided into two parts to prevent typhoons.
- 30㎡ Wilderness Home: A couple bought two used containers at a very low price and transformed the 30㎡ space into a fully functional home over six years. One of the containers can be fully unfolded on the side, forming a deck patio through an electric hydraulic system; indoor furniture can be stored in the walls, and the main material is artificial board with thermal insulation materials added.
Renovation Key Points
- Space Utilization: Due to the limited space in containers, multifunctional furniture and foldable designs, such as foldable tables, chairs, and beds, should be adopted to improve space utilization.
- Water and Electricity Facilities: To solve the problem of water and electricity usage, municipal water and electricity can be connected, or clean energy sources such as solar panels can be used for power supply. Water pipe routes should be reasonably planned to ensure convenient water usage.
- Thermal Insulation and Warmth: Add thermal insulation materials, such as relevant materials added to artificial boards, to prevent solid wood from cracking and deforming while improving thermal insulation performance; in winter, methods such as stoves can be used for heating.
- Ventilation and Lighting: Open windows reasonably to ensure good indoor ventilation; adjust the orientation of the container according to geographical location and orientation to avoid problems such as west sun exposure.
