Container Three-Story House

Admin September 16, 2026

A container three-story house is a three-story building constructed by scientifically designing and assembling container modules. It features rapid construction, a sturdy structure, and diverse functions, and is widely used in temporary buildings, offices, accommodations, and other fields.

Structural Design Features

The structural design of a container three-story house emphasizes stability and lightweight construction. Taking the three-story office building in the factory area of COSCO Shipping Nantong as an example, it is composed of 48 6-meter standard containers and 48 14-meter extended containers. To achieve cost-effectiveness while maintaining structural stability, the container beams are designed to be lightweight. Six-millimeter steel plates are bent and formed into top beams, bottom beams, and side beams, replacing traditional heavy square tubes. This not only saves on steel costs and transportation expenses but also makes the building facade more streamlined and simple. Relying on the overall framework for load-bearing, the structural stability and safety performance are significantly enhanced.

Construction Method Advantages

The container three-story house adopts a modular construction method, offering the advantages of speed and efficiency. For the aforementioned office building, container manufacturing took 6 days, and on-site container assembly took 5 days, with the entire building completed in just 11 days. This is attributed to the high-precision factory prefabrication method, where large integrated modules are welded and assembled in advance in the factory. After the modules are transported to the site, only overall hoisting, inter-layer connections, and necessary installation work are required, greatly reducing on-site construction volume, improving container dimensional accuracy, and shortening the delivery cycle.

Functional Application Scenarios

The container three-story house has diverse functions and can be applied in various scenarios. In the office sector, it can quickly build a comprehensive office space to meet the needs of hundreds of people. Through designs such as insulated walls, heat-insulating doors and windows, as well as sound insulation, noise reduction, ventilation, and moisture resistance, the office environment is improved. In the accommodation field, it can serve as temporary accommodation facilities. For example, containers were used to house athletes at the Nagoya Asian Games. Although the accommodation conditions had certain limitations due to budget constraints, they could still meet basic living needs. Additionally, it can also be used in schools, hotels, warehouses, and other places.
