Container Small House Renovation Process

Admin September 16, 2026

The renovation process for container small houses mainly includes structural design, anti-corrosion and load-bearing optimization, thermal insulation treatment, floor treatment, lifting and positioning, and interior decoration.

Structural Design: The first step in renovating a container small house is to consider the structural type. Common types include welded integral containers and bolt-connected modular containers. Welded containers are formed by integral welding, with a direct load path and strong resistance to deformation, making them suitable for frequent lifting and movement. Bolt-connected modular containers, on the other hand, use standard panels connected by bolts, with multiple connection nodes in the load path. It is essential to ensure the tightness of each node to maintain overall stability.

Anti-Corrosion and Load-Bearing Optimization: To address the issue of insufficient floor stiffness caused by the large spacing between longitudinal beams in the container's bottom frame, C-shaped steel purlins can be installed between the bottom beams to evenly distribute the load to the main beams and enhance structural stability. Additionally, the container surface should be shot-blasted to remove rust and then coated with anti-corrosion paint, such as zinc-rich primer and polyurethane topcoat, to extend the service life of the steel.

Thermal Insulation Treatment: Container houses face the challenge of thermal bridging due to their metal walls. A thermal break lining structure can be adopted, where hard polyurethane foam is filled between the steel frame and interior wall panels, and rubber thermal insulation pads are installed at the frame connections to reduce heat exchange efficiency between the interior and exterior of the container.

Floor Treatment and Lifting and Positioning: Floor treatment should provide a uniform load-bearing foundation for the container house to prevent uneven settlement. During lifting and positioning, it is crucial to precisely control the contact between the container and the foundation, ensuring that all lifting points are synchronized to avoid container distortion.

Interior Decoration: Interior decoration can be customized according to living needs, such as using foldable furniture to increase space flexibility, incorporating large windows to bring in natural light, and installing solar panels to address electricity needs.
