Area of Simple Container Houses
Admin September 17, 2026
The area of simple container houses varies depending on their size and combination method, commonly ranging from 14 to 30 square meters, with no unified standard for specially customized models.

Area of Common Standard-sized Container Houses
20-foot Standard Container House:
- Single-container Residence: The indoor area is approximately 14 square meters, suitable for single occupants or small families, with a compact spatial layout and clearly defined functional areas.
- Standard 20-foot Container House: Some designs optimize the internal structure, expanding the area to about 30 square meters, typically achieved by increasing the ceiling height or utilizing vertical space.
3m x 6m Container House:
- This type of house has an area of about 18 square meters. Although non-standard in size, it is widely used, commonly found in temporary housing on construction sites or for small commercial purposes.
40-foot Standard Container House:
- The basic area of a single container is about 28 square meters, but through horizontal or vertical combinations (such as side-by-side connections or stacking), the area can be further expanded to 56 square meters or even larger, suitable for multi-bedroom residences or office spaces.
Area of Special-sized and Customized Container Houses
- Non-standard Sizes: Sizes such as 2.5m x 6m and 3m x 7m have areas calculated based on specific lengths and widths, with no fixed values, determined by design requirements.
- Customized Models: Depending on user functional needs (such as adding balconies, lofts, or special layouts), the area may exceed conventional ranges. For example, some high-end customized container houses achieve areas of over 100 square meters through modular combinations.
Factors Influencing Area Differences
- Original Container Size: Standard containers come in lengths of 20 feet (approximately 6.06 meters) and 40 feet (approximately 12.19 meters), with widths and heights typically at 2.44 meters and 2.59 meters, directly determining the basic area.
- Combination Method: Horizontal splicing increases width, while vertical stacking increases the number of floors, both expanding the usable area.
- Internal Renovation: Designs that remove some walls, add mezzanines, or extend balconies further affect the actual usable area.
Summary: The choice of area for simple container houses should consider usage, budget, and site conditions. Standard sizes are suitable for rapid deployment, while customized models can meet personalized needs, but attention should be paid to structural safety and compliance.
