Container Renovation Process

Admin September 15, 2026

The process of renovating a container into a house mainly includes several key steps: design planning, exterior renovation, interior decoration, and facility installation.

In the design planning phase, it is necessary to clarify the functional requirements of the house, such as the number of occupants and spatial zoning (bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, etc.), and carry out splicing and combination design in combination with container sizes (commonly 3m×6m and 6m×12m). For example, using 2-3 containers stacked in a staggered manner can expand functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms, forming a flat layout of about 100 square meters; for small units (such as 15 square meters), priority should be given to planning the layout of multi-functional furniture, such as folding beds and folding tables, to enhance spatial flexibility.

In the exterior renovation phase, the focus is on solving structural reinforcement and functional expansion issues. The container body needs to undergo anti-corrosion treatment, and the welds need to be strengthened against rust; cut door and window openings according to design requirements and install reinforced frames; the roof can be equipped with lifting rods or hydraulic systems to expand the terrace space, such as a case where an electric hydraulic device is used to open and close the side wall panels, creating an additional deck area; at the same time, environmentally friendly facilities such as solar panels and rainwater collection systems need to be installed, and insulation layers (such as polystyrene boards) need to be laid to improve energy efficiency.

In the interior decoration phase, both practicality and aesthetics need to be considered. It is recommended to use fire-resistant gypsum boards or artificial boards for the walls, with thermal insulation materials embedded inside; lay moisture-proof wooden floors or tiles on the ground, and carry out waterproofing in kitchen and bathroom areas; for furniture design, modular and foldable styles should be preferred, such as convertible sofa beds and built-in cabinets, to maximize space utilization; the decoration style can combine simple color tones such as natural wood and white, with green plants and soft furnishings to enhance a warm atmosphere.

In the facility installation phase, it is necessary to complete the layout of water and electricity pipelines and equipment connection. Water and electricity lines need to be concealed along the container frame, with sufficient sockets and switches reserved; the bathroom needs to be equipped with compact equipment, such as wall-mounted toilets and mini washbasins, and a ventilation system should be configured; for the kitchen, it is recommended to use integrated cabinets that integrate appliances such as induction cookers and range hoods; in addition, temperature control equipment such as air conditioners, floor heating, or stoves needs to be installed to ensure living comfort.
