Container Mobile House Fireplace

Admin September 15, 2026

The design and application of fireplaces in container mobile houses usually combine functionality and aesthetics, commonly found in living rooms, open kitchens, or outdoor leisure areas. The materials and installation methods need to be customized according to the structural characteristics of the container.

Common Locations and Designs of Fireplaces in Container Houses

The design of fireplaces in container houses is mostly concentrated in public activity areas to enhance space utilization and living experience. For example, some cases place wooden fireplaces below the large-screen TV in the living room, saving space and creating a visual focal point. There are also designs that position the fireplace at the junction of the open kitchen and the living room, utilizing the middle part of the fireplace for easy access to firewood stacked on the wall while enhancing light penetration through the open layout. In addition, the design of outdoor fireplaces is also relatively common. For instance, an eco-cabin in South Africa has a large outdoor fireplace to meet the needs of outdoor activities in winter, creating a unique experience of 'barbecuing under the stars and playing the guitar by the fireplace.'

Material and Structural Adaptability

The metal material of container houses poses special requirements for fireplace design. Due to the strong thermal conductivity of metal, it is necessary to wrap the area around the fireplace with thermal insulation materials (such as fire-resistant rock wool and ceramic fiber boards) to prevent heat transfer to the container walls, which could lead to structural deformation or safety hazards. Some cases adopt a double-layer container structure, embedding the fireplace into the inner wall while retaining the metal appearance of the outer layer to ensure safety. For example, a seasonal hotel in the Czech Republic stacks 20-foot and 40-foot containers to arrange fireplaces in multi-level spaces, meeting functional needs while maintaining structural stability.

Installation and Cost Considerations

The installation of fireplaces requires comprehensive consideration of equipment costs, installation engineering, and long-term operation and maintenance. Imported cast-iron fireplaces (such as the Norwegian JOTUL brand) have high thermal efficiency and long service life, but their unit price ranges from 20,000 to 60,000 yuan, suitable for projects pursuing quality. Domestic high-quality real-fire fireplaces (such as the Hebei Yezhiqin S112 model) are priced between 8,000 and 20,000 yuan, with dust emissions as low as 37mg/Nm³, meeting EU standards, and are a more cost-effective choice. During installation, space for the flue needs to be reserved. Some designs connect the external chimney through an opening in the top of the container to ensure smooth smoke exhaust. In addition, the design of the firewood storage area also needs to be considered, such as transforming the wall beside the fireplace into a wooden storage rack, combining practicality and decoration.

Special Scenario Applications

In extreme climates or special demand scenarios, fireplace design needs further optimization. For example, a container house in Canada places the fireplace on the top floor through a cantilever structure, utilizing the principle of hot air rising to improve heating efficiency. A project in South Africa hangs an external sunshade on the roof to cooperate with the fireplace and avoid overheating in summer. For mobile container houses, fireplaces need to adopt lightweight designs. Some cases achieve quick disassembly and assembly through foldable flues or portable wood-burning stoves to meet the needs of frequent relocation.
