Container Living Renovation House

Admin September 16, 2026

When renovating a container for living purposes, it is essential to comprehensively consider key aspects such as structural safety, ground treatment, space planning, water and electricity configuration, and thermal insulation. Details are as follows:

Structural Safety and Selection Considerations

The type of container structure directly affects its safety and applicability. Welded integral containers are welded into shape as a whole in the factory, with a direct force path and strong resistance to deformation, making them suitable for frequent lifting and moving. Bolt-connected assembled containers use standard plates connected by bolts. It is crucial to check the wall thickness of the steel columns and bottom beams (common specifications range from 1.5 mm to 3 mm). A thicker wall thickness provides greater load-bearing redundancy but also increases the self-weight. Additionally, the coating process on the container surface should meet environmental requirements. For example, in areas with large temperature differences between day and night and significant humidity changes, hot-dip galvanizing offers significantly longer corrosion resistance than cold-dip galvanizing.

Ground Treatment and Foundation Construction

Ground treatment should provide a uniform load-bearing foundation for the container. If placed directly on soft soil, local pressure can cause uneven settlement of the container, leading to issues such as window and door deformation and wall cracks. For long-term fixed use scenarios, a concrete strip foundation should be poured, with a recommended width of 30 cm to 50 cm and a depth determined by the local frost depth. The top surface of the foundation should have a levelness error of no more than 5 mm. For short-term use scenarios, precast concrete pads or steel plates can be used, with a pad spacing of no more than 2 meters, and a crushed stone leveling layer should be laid beneath each pad.

Space Planning and Functional Zoning

The internal space of a container is limited, so reasonable planning is required to maximize functionality. For example, using foldable custom beds, sofa-bed integrated designs, and semi-open kitchens can improve space utilization. Enhancing living comfort can be achieved by adding thermal insulation materials, white wood veneers, and wooden floors. Expanding activity areas can be done by utilizing hydraulic decks and balconies.

Water and Electricity Configuration and Thermal Insulation

Water and electricity configuration should meet daily needs, such as installing solar panels to solve electricity problems and designing separate wet and dry bathrooms to improve convenience. For thermal insulation, thermal insulation materials such as rock wool and polyurethane foam should be added inside and outside the container. In winter, electric heaters or stoves can be used for heating, and in summer, portable air conditioners can be used for cooling. However, it should be noted that metal containers may lead to higher energy consumption.
