Installing Air Conditioners in Container Iron Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

Container iron houses can be equipped with air conditioners, but factors such as power matching, installation location, power supply, and house airtightness need to be comprehensively considered. Here is a detailed analysis:

1. Air Conditioner Configuration Should Match the House Space
Container houses have a relatively small volume but strong airtightness. It is necessary to select an air conditioner with an appropriate power rating based on the house size. For example, the container dormitories at the Nagoya Asian Games were equipped with only one air conditioner, resulting in unbearable stuffiness indoors in hot and humid conditions, indicating that a single air conditioner may not meet the demand. If the house has a large area or high ceiling height (e.g., above 2.2 meters), it is necessary to increase the number of air conditioners or choose high-power models to avoid insufficient cooling/heating effects.

2. Installation Location Should Be Reasonably Planned
The outdoor unit of the air conditioner needs to be fixed on the outer wall of the container or a dedicated bracket to ensure stability. The indoor unit should be installed away from obstacles to ensure unobstructed air outlets. Some container houses use split-type air conditioners, which require holes to be drilled in the walls to connect the pipelines. Attention should be paid to waterproofing to prevent rainwater from seeping in. In addition, sufficient length should be reserved for the air conditioner pipelines to avoid pipeline breakage due to container movement.

3. Power Supply Should Meet the Demand
Air conditioners require stable power support for operation, especially high-power models. If container houses are used in temporary construction sites or remote areas, it is necessary to confirm the power supply method (e.g., mains power, generators, or solar power). Insufficient power may cause the air conditioner to frequently shut down or damage the compressor. For example, some engineering camp containers can only support the operation of low-power air conditioners due to limited power.

4. House Airtightness Affects Air Conditioner Performance
The airtightness of container houses directly affects the efficiency of air conditioners. If there are large gaps in doors and windows or air leakage points in the walls, cold/hot air is prone to escape, increasing energy consumption. Before installing an air conditioner, it is necessary to check the house's airtightness and add sealing strips or thermal insulation materials if necessary. For example, some containers adopt air-break thermal insulation designs (such as double-layer steel plates with insulation layers) to improve thermal insulation performance and reduce the air conditioner load.

5. Customized Solutions Are Required for Special Scenarios
In extreme climates or high-altitude areas, air conditioners need to have special functions (such as low-temperature resistance and dust resistance). Some container houses are equipped with customized air conditioning systems (such as industrial-grade air conditioners or explosion-proof air conditioners) to meet special environmental requirements. In addition, for mobile container houses, the portability of the air conditioner should be considered, and models that can be quickly disassembled and assembled should be selected.
