Container House with Bathroom

Admin September 16, 2026

Container houses can be equipped with bathroom facilities, and there are already various mature application scenarios. The following elaborates from three aspects: technical implementation, application cases, and design considerations.

I. Technical Implementation: Modular Integration as the Core

The bathroom facilities in container houses typically adopt a modular design of factory prefabrication and on-site assembly. Taking a 20-foot standard container as an example, its internal space can be divided into an independent bathroom area and a living area. The bathroom module (including a toilet, shower, and sink) is fixed by a steel structure frame, and water supply and drainage pipes are pre-embedded. For instance, the customized container house bathroom provided by Dongguan Yashun Light Steel Structure Co., Ltd. has achieved integrated production of the "container body + bathroom module", and on-site installation only requires connection to the municipal water supply network or a water tank for use.

Waterproofing treatment of the bathroom module is a key technology. A waterproof layer (such as PVC rolls or epoxy resin coating) needs to be laid inside the container body. The bathroom floor uses non-slip tiles or composite flooring, and a slope is set to direct water to the floor drain. Some high-end products also use sealing strips at the joints between the bathroom module and the container body to ensure a waterproof rating of IPX4 or above.

II. Application Cases: From Temporary Accommodation to Commercial Spaces

  1. Temporary Accommodation for Sports Events: The 2026 Nagoya Asian Games adopted container houses as athlete dormitories. Each unit was divided into two households, with three people living in each household, sharing toilets and showers, and equipped with facilities such as air conditioners and refrigerators. Although it sparked controversy due to its compact space, its approval by the Olympic Council of Asia proved that it met the official standards of being "safe, hygienic, and meeting basic rest needs".
  2. Construction Site Workshops: A road construction project on Weichang Road used 20 container houses as workshops, with independent bathrooms equipped in each container body, and the construction was completed in 3 days, significantly improving the living conditions of workers.
  3. Cultural and Tourism Commercial Spaces: There are characteristic restaurants in Weifang city that have been transformed from containers. After creative design, a single 35-square-meter container body can attract a daily passenger flow of 150 people, among which the reasonable layout of bathroom facilities is the key to enhancing the user experience.

III. Design Considerations: Balancing Functionality and Comfort

  1. Space Optimization: Designs such as folding doors and sliding windows are used to reduce the floor area occupied by the bathroom module. For example, a rural cottage transformed from a second-hand container uses wall-mounted toilets and thermostatic showers to save space while improving usability.
  2. Ventilation and Lighting: The bathroom area needs to be equipped with exhaust fans or ventilation windows to prevent moisture and odors. Some products use double-glazed windows to balance lighting and sound insulation.
  3. Energy Supply: Solar water heaters, electric water heaters, or gas water heaters can be selected according to the scenario. For example, rural practical cottages mostly use solar water heaters to reduce operating costs, while temporary accommodation for sports events relies on municipal water and power supplies.
  4. Drainage System: Container houses need to be equipped with an independent drainage network or with septic tanks and sewage treatment equipment. Shanghai Yaotuo Container Co., Ltd. recommends that the ground level during installation should be higher than the surrounding area, and drainage ditches should be excavated to prevent water accumulation and leakage.
