Container House Water Prevention Measures

Admin September 16, 2026

Water prevention in container houses is mainly achieved by optimizing roof waterproofing design, enhancing the sealing of walls and windows, adopting modular waterproofing technology, and improving the drainage system.

1. Roof Waterproofing Design

The roof waterproofing of container houses is a crucial aspect of preventing water accumulation. Waterproof membrane installation is a common method, which involves cleaning the base layer, applying adhesive to the back of the membrane and the base layer, adhering it along the reference line, and rolling it for compaction. Finally, joint sealing and inspection are carried out, followed by a water storage test to verify the effectiveness after completion. Coating waterproofing employs a 'one-cloth-two-coats' process, where the coating is applied evenly first, followed by laying fiberglass cloth as reinforcement after drying, and then applying another coat of the coating for fixation. After drying, the next coat is applied. Additionally, laying a rigid waterproof layer is an effective measure, using materials such as advanced fatty acid-based mortar waterproofing agents, cement, and sand. The thickness of the waterproof layer is controlled between 20-30 millimeters to enhance the roof's water resistance.

2. Sealing of Walls and Windows

The connections between the walls and windows of container houses are prone to leakage due to inadequate sealing. When covering the top with glass, aluminum panels, or color-coated steel sheets, steel structural keels should be installed and sealed with adhesive to ensure a tight bond between the waterproof layer and the covering materials. Window installation requires special attention to the tightness between the window frame and the wall, as well as between the window frame and aluminum alloy profiles, to prevent rainwater infiltration through gaps. For packed container houses, special attention should be paid to the flatness of wall and roof purlins to prevent leakage caused by structural irregularities.

3. Modular Waterproofing Technology

Container houses are assembled using modular components, and seamless connection technology, combined with a comprehensive air conditioning, ventilation, and water supply and drainage system, can significantly enhance waterproofing performance. For example, container hotels achieve seamless对接 (docking/connection) between units through modular design, reducing the risk of leakage at joints. Additionally, installing steel structural keels on the top and covering them with waterproof materials not only enhances structural stability but also forms a dual waterproof barrier.

4. Drainage System Optimization

The drainage system of container houses must work in conjunction with the waterproofing design. Properly setting the drainage slope ensures rapid drainage of rainwater, preventing water accumulation. Placing sump pumps at critical water accumulation points serves as an emergency measure to promptly remove accumulated rainwater during heavy storms, reducing the risk of damage to the house.
