Container House Wall Thickness

Admin September 15, 2026

The wall thickness of container houses varies depending on their type and purpose, commonly ranging from 75mm to over 200mm, with some customized products potentially being thinner or thicker.

1. Wall Thickness of Packaged Container Houses

The walls of packaged container houses typically use color-steel glass wool sandwich panels, with a standard thickness of 75mm and inner and outer color-steel plate thicknesses of 0.45mm each. This structure combines insulation, heat resistance, and fire resistance, making it suitable for construction site dormitories, office areas, and other scenarios. Some manufacturers may offer sandwich panels of different thicknesses (such as 50mm or 100mm) to meet higher insulation requirements or cost optimization.

2. Wall Thickness of Shipping Container-Modified Houses

If shipping containers are directly used for modification, the thickness of their original box panels should refer to international standards:

  • The standard thickness of the side panels is 1.6mm, and the roof panel is 2.0mm.
  • If the original box structure is retained during modification, the wall thickness will be these values; however, if cutting, splicing, or additional installation of insulation layers and decorative layers is performed, the actual effective thickness may increase to over 100mm-200mm (including interior decoration materials).

3. Wall Thickness of Light Steel Keel Container Houses

Light steel keel houses use cold-formed thin-walled light steel keels as the load-bearing structure, with walls filled with insulation materials (such as glass wool or polyurethane), typically ranging in thickness from 100mm to 150mm. These houses can be flexibly customized in appearance and layout, suitable for long-term use scenarios such as self-built houses and homestays, with thickness design needing to balance structural strength and thermal performance.

4. Flexibility in Thickness of Customized Container Houses

Based on cost budgets or functional requirements, the wall thickness of container houses can be further customized:

  • Side Panel Thickness: The side panels of shipping containers can be customized to 2.0mm, 1.4mm, 1.2mm, 1.0mm, or even 0.8mm, but structural safety and economy must be balanced.
  • Sandwich Panel Thickness: The thickness of sandwich panels in packaged container houses can also be adjusted, for example, using thinner 50mm panels to reduce costs or thicker 100mm panels to enhance insulation effects.
