Container House Too Hot in Summer
Admin September 15, 2026
Container houses can become excessively hot in summer, but the following methods can be used to achieve thermal insulation and cooling:

I. Select high-quality thermal insulation materials
- Polystyrene foam sandwich panels: Made of black steel plates enclosing polystyrene foam, these panels have high thermal insulation properties and can effectively block the transfer of external heat.
- Rock wool boards: Rock wool itself has thermal insulation effects and can be used alone or combined with the container structure to form a thermal insulation layer.
- Polyurethane foam layers: The middle layer uses polyurethane foam material that is more than 50mm thick, which can significantly block heat conduction. When combined with an outer layer of anti-corrosion color-coated steel plates that reflect sunlight, an efficient thermal insulation system is formed.
- Double-layer composite walls: For example, a combination of rock wool and extruded polystyrene boards, along with thermal-break aluminum windows and doors, can control the temperature difference between the interior and exterior within 8-10℃, achieving warmth in winter and coolness in summer.
II. Optimize structural design
- Increase the thickness of the thermal insulation layer: Thicken the foam or rock wool layer during construction to improve thermal insulation performance and reduce indoor temperature fluctuations.
- Three-layer key structure: Adopt a composite structure consisting of an outer layer of anti-corrosion color-coated steel plates, a middle layer of polyurethane foam, and an inner layer of fire-resistant gypsum boards + moisture-proof films. This meets the requirement in China's Technical Standard for Steel Structure Integrated Houses that the heat transfer coefficient of residential container walls should be ≤0.45W/(㎡·K), and the thermal insulation efficiency is 1.8 times that of traditional brick-concrete walls.
- Adjustable sunshade roofs: Install aluminum foil reflective layer sandwich panels on the roof and combine them with adjustable sunshade roofs to reduce direct sunlight and lower roof heat absorption.
- Bottom ventilation slots: Set up bottom ventilation slots to promote air circulation, carry away ground heat, and create a natural cooling effect.
III. Auxiliary cooling measures
- Install air conditioners: Used in conjunction with thermal insulation, air conditioners can quickly lower indoor temperatures and improve comfort.
- Use thermal insulation coatings: Apply reflective thermal insulation coatings on the outer surface of the container to reduce sunlight absorption and lower the surface temperature.
- Reasonably arrange ventilation: In summer, open the side windows to use wind pressure to create convection and accelerate heat dissipation; in winter, close the windows to retain warmth and reduce heat loss.
