Modification of Container House to Glass Door

Admin September 17, 2026

The modification of a container house to a glass door requires systematic structural reinforcement and performance reconstruction to ensure safety and functionality, with implementation carried out in stages.

1. Structural Assessment and Hole Planning
Before modification, a comprehensive assessment of the container's current condition is necessary, focusing on the degree of corrosion, flatness, and distribution of internal structural reinforcements in the planned hole-cutting area. The cutting position must avoid key load-bearing parts, such as corner posts and the valleys of main load-bearing corrugated plates, which are core support points for the overall stability of the container. If the hole-cutting area shows signs of rust or deformation, rust removal, grinding, or local reinforcement must be carried out first to ensure that the structural strength is not compromised after cutting.

2. Cutting and Installation of Reinforced Door Frame
After opening the hole according to the design dimensions using plasma or mechanical cutting tools, a prefabricated reinforced door frame must be installed immediately. The door frame, typically welded from rectangular steel tubes or channel steel, serves to effectively transfer the loads from the glass door and surrounding areas to the original structure of the container, preventing deformation caused by localized stress concentration. The door frame must fit tightly against the container frame and be secured through welding or high-strength bolts to ensure a seamless connection.

3. Physical Performance Reconstruction
The modification must simultaneously optimize the container's thermal insulation, sealing, and drainage performance:

  • Thermal Insulation Design: Fill thermal insulation strips between the glass door and the container frame, or use double-glazed units to reduce heat transfer efficiency;
  • Sealing Treatment: Use weather-resistant sealant or rubber strips to create a continuous sealing layer, preventing air leakage and noise intrusion;
  • Drainage Path: Design a slope or drainage channel at the bottom of the door frame to guide rainwater outward and prevent water accumulation and infiltration.

4. Regional Adaptability Design (Taking Jiangsu as an Example)
In the humid climate of Jiangsu, additional attention must be paid to thermal insulation, moisture resistance, and ventilation:

  • Thermal Insulation Layer: Add rock wool or polyurethane foam insulation layers to the inner walls of the container, with a recommended thickness of no less than 50mm, to reduce condensation caused by temperature differences between indoors and outdoors;
  • Moisture Resistance Treatment: Cover the insulation layer with a moisture-resistant film and choose weather-resistant coatings for exterior treatment to prevent rust caused by humid environments;
  • Ventilation Design: Install adjustable vents above or beside the glass door to promote air circulation and prevent stuffiness indoors.

During the modification process, strict adherence to building safety regulations is essential, and professional institutions should be commissioned for structural verification when necessary to ensure that the modified container house meets usage requirements.
