Is Thermal Insulation Effective for Container Houses?

Admin September 17, 2026

The thermal insulation of container houses can, to a certain extent, meet daily living needs. However, compared to some traditional buildings, the effect may be slightly inferior, but there are multiple ways to enhance its thermal insulation performance.

Basic Thermal Insulation Performance

The thermal insulation materials used in container houses can effectively block part of the heat transfer. Under sunlight exposure, the indoor temperature will not soar rapidly and can maintain a relatively stable and comfortable temperature. However, on hot summer days, the indoor temperature will rise after prolonged exposure to the sun. This is because the metal material of the container itself has strong thermal conductivity. Despite the presence of thermal insulation materials, heat will still gradually enter the interior in extreme high-temperature environments.

Methods to Improve Thermal Insulation Performance

  • Select appropriate thermal insulation materials: Such as polystyrene boards, polyurethane foam boards, and rock wool boards. Polystyrene boards have good thermal insulation properties and are relatively inexpensive; polyurethane foam boards have a high closed-cell rate and excellent thermal insulation effects; rock wool boards not only provide thermal insulation but also have fire-resistant and sound-absorbing properties. Choosing the right material based on different usage requirements and environmental conditions can effectively improve thermal insulation performance.
  • Increase thermal insulation layers: This can be achieved through methods such as external hanging insulation layers and internal thermal insulation boards. External hanging insulation layers can directly block the entry of external heat, while internal thermal insulation boards can reduce the loss of indoor heat. Increasing the thickness of the insulation layer can further enhance the thermal insulation effect, but factors such as cost and space occupation need to be considered.
  • Optimize the design of windows and doors: Use double- or triple-glazed windows and install sealing strips at the edges. Double- or triple-glazed windows can effectively block heat transfer, and sealing strips can prevent air convection and reduce heat loss.
  • Pay attention to detail handling: Details such as the splicing of thermal insulation materials, the treatment of connection parts, and the integration of the insulation layer with the container structure are crucial. If not handled properly, thermal bridges can easily form, leading to increased heat transfer and affecting the thermal insulation effect.

In addition, using high-reflectivity materials and reasonable structures on the roof, applying thermal insulation materials to the exterior walls, and reasonably setting up vents and fans can also improve thermal insulation performance in summer, keeping container houses relatively cool in hot weather.
