Container House Tesla
The container house where Musk lives is essentially a prefabricated housing product from the collaboration between Tesla and Boxabl, integrating cutting-edge technologies such as modular construction, environmental protection, energy efficiency, and convenient transportation, representing an innovative direction for future low-cost housing.

Modular Prefabrication Technology
The house employs prefabricated building (Prefabricated Houses) technology, with all construction processes, including plumbing, electrical wiring, pipeline pre-installation, and interior decoration, completed in the factory. It is then transported to the site for assembly after being folded. This model overturns the traditional construction process that requires gradual construction on the land, significantly shortening the construction cycle. For example, Boxabl's Casita model, with an area of approximately 35-37 square meters, can be compressed from 6 meters to 2.5 meters in length after folding and can be towed by a Tesla vehicle for transportation, with on-site assembly taking only a few hours. Broad Construction even demonstrated the technology of assembling a 10-story prefabricated high-rise building in one day, proving that prefabricated buildings can be extended to high-rise scenarios.
Environmental Protection and Sustainable Design
The house walls are made of sustainable and environmentally friendly materials, featuring fire resistance, hurricane resistance, mold resistance, and even the ability to withstand forest fires. The roof integrates six solar power generation panels, which can supply power to the entire house and store excess electricity in Tesla's Powerwall energy storage system, forming a closed loop of 'power generation-energy storage-power consumption'. According to calculations, this system can help users save 92% of their electricity costs. Additionally, the house is equipped with a rainwater collection and filtration system, further reducing dependence on external resources.
Intelligence and Convenience
The house enables remote monitoring and device control through the Tesla Home App, allowing users to view energy consumption data in real-time and adjust home appliances. The interior design is compact and efficient, including a bedroom, living room, kitchen, and bathroom, equipped with full-size appliances (such as refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens) and composite flooring, keeping warm in winter. The house also reserves a Tesla Supercharger outlet for convenient charging of electric vehicles. If relocation is needed, users can simply transport the house without disassembling furniture, truly realizing the vision of 'traveling with the house'.
Cost and Market Response
The base model is priced at approximately $50,000, and Musk confidently estimates its value at $69,000 after improvements. Compared to traditional buildings, its cost advantage is significant, and orders have surged (Boxabl's waiting list exceeds 120,000 people, with more than 5,000 paying deposits), demonstrating strong market demand for low-cost, environmentally friendly housing.
